Lafayette 148 blouse with Giorgio Armani slacks….

I almost lost all my fingernails which would have been tragic.  When I hear someone say “the trend this Spring is or the color for Spring is” it’s like running my fingernails over a chalk board.  Women listen up and listen good….  Trends are for amateurs and sheep, not you!   I say this a million times “if I’m wearing it, it’s in STYLE” because that’s the attitude one must have,  not ‘well I can’t wear this color because it’s not in season’ or ‘the cut of those slacks are so last year’, that just makes one look left behind and still living under a rock.  Good classic cuts and tailoring NEVER EVER goes out of STYLE.  It is timeless.  The reason I’m saying this is because at the thrift store a woman said to me ‘I like those slacks but the color isn’t current’….  I said “darling stop following other people and be your own person”….  I’m so rattled I have got to stop and talk about these 2 very lovely pieces.  The blouse is a gorgeous Lafayette 148 blouse that ties in the back and pulls in the shape of your body so beautifully.  These classic cut Giorgio Armani slacks are simple chic and timeless.  These are 2 very well known brands that don’t manufacture ‘trendy’ clothes in fact their reputation is quite the opposite.  This ensemble can be worn today or in 2013, 2018 or 2099.  Daniel your luxury curator!

3 tops: Max Mara, Norma Kamali & Lafayette 148….

This blog posting shows 3 different fabric: Weekend by Max Mara is wool, Norma Kamali is cotton & Lafayette 148 is linen.  I always say ‘variety is the spice of life’ so why not make this serving the main dish!!   All 3 of these labels came out from the same thrift store on the same day and I knew instantly that I would want to blog about the variety of fabrics.  All 3 of these tops are short sleeves and perfect for any event, I mean how does one go wrong with wool by Max Mara?   I’m a big fan of linen, it’s the perfect fabric for summer.  Cotton is always the perfect fabric for just about any season and wool of course is perfect for autumn & winter.  See didn’t I tell you variety is the spice of life??  Friend me on Facebook and follow me on Twitter and be STYLISH go green.  Daniel your luxury curator!

Badgley Mischka top with Dries Van Noten slacks…..

Every now and then I can claim to hit the ball out of the park and this is one of those times.  I couldn’t believe  that Lady Luck lead me to not only finding Badgley Mischka but Dries Van Noten too, I might need my smelling salts for this one.  I’m loving this light cotton with beading top by Badgley Mischka.  Mark Badgley & James Mischka met while students at Parsons School of Design in NYC in the 80′s.  They officially created Badgley Mischka in 1988.    Their designs appeal to a modern, young thinking, and fashion forward clientele not to mention the long list of celebrities.  My heart did sink even farther when I saw the Dries Van Noten label because you know I LOVE my Belgian designers.  Dries Van Noten (one of the Antwerp Six) has had constant international success since 1986, despite his lack of advertising.  Renowned for his use of digitally enhanced ethnic prints and original fabrics, the designer layers conflicting patterns with strong, streamlined tailoring and bespoke touches in such a way that he has firmly cemented his aesthetic.  This gray wool slacks are delicious and when you add the Badgley Mischka top to it, it’s just sinfully delicious.  These lovely items came directly out of a thrift store with so much love to continually give I think I’m ready for my smelling salts…. My first Tracy Reese dress I found…..

I love finding recycled luxury items I haven’t found before so here I go finding my 1st Tracy Reese.  Tracy Reese’s ultra feminine vintage inspired collections are a huge hit.  This Detroit native headed for Manhattan in 1982 to attend Parsons and then assisted Martine Sitbon.  In the Spring of 1998, Reese launched her eponymous collection to rave reviews.  Perfect for the modern woman, Reese’s debut showcased ultra feminine pieces layered with intelligent nostalgia, charm & luxury; a distinctive look that the designer has since become known for.  This sexy green dress I snatched from the thrift store even with it’s broken zipper is the find of the day.  A broken zipper is an easy remedy, you simply take it to your favorite alteration place and let them put you in a brand new zipper for between $10-15.  Never let a broken zipper get in your way of adding some luxury into your wardrobe especially eco-friendly luxury!  Please friend me on Facebook and follow me on Twitter.  Stop by Doubletake my social media driven boutique and be STYLISH go green.  Daniel your luxury curator!

Blue Rebecca Taylor wrap top with black Cynthia Steffe skirt…

I just love finding and salvaging Rebecca Taylor’s luxury pieces because of my huge admiration for this designer.  Rebecca Taylor as you know is from New Zealand and based in New York and when she first arrived in the States she had very little $$$ in her pockets but found work at Cynthia Rowley.  I love hearing stories about how someone came to this country with very little money and then go on to become a highly respected fashion designer where Neiman Marcus & Bergdorf Goodman sell her fabulous creations.  This just reinforces the notion that if you have a vision and put the hard work in, you can become anything you desire.  I love this blue Rebecca Taylor wrap top and it goes nicely with this Cynthia Steffe skirt.  All this outfit needs is a blouse underneath the wrap and off in First Class Rebecca Taylor & Cynthia Steffe go.  Stop by my social media driven boutique Doubletake in Atlanta and please friend me on Facebook and follow me on Twitter.  Be STYLISH go green.  Daniel your luxury curator!

Tibi top + Carmen Marc Valvo bodysuit + Cynthia Rowley gold heels…

Shopping ‘green’ saves you the gr$$n –  just look what I salvaged from a thrift store: Tibi , Carmen Marc Valvo & Cynthia Rowley.  Everyone of these brands are high end and highly respected so today was a windfall for ‘green’ eco-friendly movement I would have to say.  Shopping for ‘green’ luxury has never been easier than what it is today and every time I find great labels like these I keep saying ‘thank you’ for donating them people.  Thank you for giving someone else an opportunity to build up their wardrobe without it killing their bank account.  Keep those donations coming people and retailers, so that Daniel Troppy keeps salvaging them and finding new homes for them.  Friend me on Facebook and follow me on Twitter and always be STYLISH go green.  Daniel your luxury curator!

Yellow Theory dress & Navy Rena Lange top….

Every time I find a Rena Lange piece inside a thrift store I just am Bewitched Bothered & Bewildered.  I love me some Rena Lange…. RENA LANGE created luxury prêt-à-porter collections expected for an international clientele, the quality and perfection. Feminine elegance and sophistication are the creative components of the collection. The focus of design director Julian Neale focuses on designs that convey the philosophy of modern design and style.  This navy sleeveless Rena Lange top is a classic for anyone’s wardrobe.  I know the same can be said about this yellow Theory dress too… it’s a classic dress, no bells or whistles just pure clean lines and simplicity.  I love things that are no fuss.  Friend me on Facebook and follow me on Twitter so I don’t fuss….  Be STYLISH go green.  Daniel your luxury curator!

Check out what fellow thrifter scored from Goodwill & Salvation Army…

I LOVEEEE  getting emails from my readers telling me their stories and sharing photos about all the luxury they scored from thrifting.  That is music to my tone deaf ears !    This is a letter from Vanessa and I want to share it with you:

Hi Daniel,

Of course you know I’m a huge fan of your blog!  My closet is about 85-90% thrifted designer items that I’ve scored at my local Goodwill and Salvation Army.  So, naturally I had to send some pics when I saw you were looking for reader submissions.

This is just the stuff I’ve scored in the last couple of months.  (I’ve been hardcore thrifting for 5+ years.)  Sorry the pics aren’t the best.  My regular camera died, so I took pics on my cell.  Here’s what I’m sending:

- Red leather tote bag by BCBG Max Azria.  Retails $300.  I paid $7.99 @ Goodwill.
- Black leather bomber jacket by Paper Denim & Cloth (designer denim brand).  Retails $250.  I paid $19.99 @ Goodwill.
- Vintage, white lambskin, quilted chain bag by Bally of Switzerland.  Retails $400?  I paid $4.99 at Goodwill.
- Taupe cashmere/silk sweater by Chaiken.  Retails $175.  Paid $3.99 at Goodwill.
- White & gold suede heels by Marc Jacobs.  Retails $400?  Paid $2.99 at Salvation Army.
- Two pairs (navy and purple) flats from Belle by Sigerson Morrison.  Retails $250 each.  I paid $10.00 ($4.99 each) @ Goodwill.
- Black cocktail dress by Maria Bianca Nero (shown with vintage gold chain belt/necklace, Vince Camuto heels and Tano of Italy clutch, all thrifted).  Retails $300.  I paid $10.00 at a local Chicago thrift shop called Brown Elephant that supports outreach for GLBT youth in crisis.

Enjoy, and KEEP THRIFTING!  Love your blog! :-)

Vanessa

Thanks Vanessa for doing your part and helping keep our planet ‘green’ and for being an active member of the sustainable lifeSTYLE.

Black Marc Bouwer top & pink Rebecca Taylor top….

These 2 tops are diva ready.  Do you remember when Melissa Leo won her Oscar ??  Well she was wearing a dress that was designed specially for her by Marc Bouwer.  When I had first found a Marc Bouwer item and blogged about it Marc Bouwer started following me on Twitter because I think he was intrigued by what I was doing.  That dress he designed for Melissa Leo was gorgeous-simply gorgeous and same goes for this black Marc Bouwer top.  Simple Chic so I’m intrigued by what he is doing.  The other top I salvaged is by Rebecca Taylor and I would have to say judging from the look of the label it’s an old piece.  These are 2 very beautiful tops that just needed me to come in and salvage them which I did with all my loving heart.  Friend me on Facebook and follow me on Twitter and stop by Doubletake my social media driven boutique in Atlanta.  Be STYLISH go green.  Daniel your luxury curator!

Versus Versace top and Jil Sander skirt…

I haven’t the foggiest idea as to why I would have found another  Versus Versace item because I had just recently found another top but again DON’T ASK and for goodness sake don’t questions the GODS.  I love this gray Versace Versus top it’s so chic and simple and I can see Donatella Versace wearing it can’t you?  That woman is just amazing, she has more vision and energy in her little pinky than most people.  So when I grabbed the Versace top I was pleased as punch and then I found this Jil Sander  skirt and that punch got me drunk!   Versace & Jil Sander are you kidding me?  I love both brands and who cares whether or not their this season, last season or last decade at the end of the day they are Versace Versus and Jil Sander so sit down.  Good clean simple STYLE never goes out of STYLE…  Friend me on Facebook and follow me on Twitter and please stop in my social media driven boutique Doubletake in Atlanta.  Be STYLISH go green.  Daniel your luxury curator!
