Jil Sander sweater with Les Copains skirt….

Just how many ways do I love the European lines – let me count the ways….  Well come to think of it there is just way to many ways…  I love Jil Sander and when I find it in the thrift stores, which isn’t everyday or every month, I can’t help but pinch myself.   I have to be honest when I see this label the first thing I hope is that it’s a man’s cut and my size!  I know right, I have to look STYLISH too…. I love that Jil Sander is stepping back into her label so I’m excited to see that change of energy but since Jil Sander is timeless I won’t be skipping a beat.  When I found the Les Copains skirt made in Italy I thought to myself “my GODS can this be true”?????  This ensemble is nothing but timeless and of course chic.  Friend me on Facebook and follow me on Twitter too….be STYLISH go green.  Daniel your luxury curator!

Betsey Johnson blouse with fire engine red St John slacks…

When I made my YouTube video and talked about these red St John knit slacks I called them ‘granny pants’ but I’m going to show you how you put that twist to it….  Now these red slacks by St John came out from 1 thrift store and the Betsey Johnson blouse came out of another and this union is a blissful one.  Not for 1 second did I contemplate not getting these St John slacks because of the bright color because I know you can tone anything down with a great modern top, belt and especially shoes.  St John isn’t your ‘old lady’ brand anymore far from that today.  The key to making a classic piece of St John work in your favor is to incorporate it with something new & contemporary.  I mean I can see Lara Stone wearing these slacks with a Lanvin blouse and rocking it!  Since I didn’t find me a Lanvin blouse I am just as happy with finding this black Betsey Johnson handkerchief sleeves top.  I love LOVE the cut and construction of this blouse and it elevates these red St John slacks high up in the stratosphere which is where every good girl wants to go… Friend me on Facebook and follow me on Twitter…..be STYLISH go green.  Daniel your luxury curator!

Dior blouse & James Perse top …

This Dior button down blouse is a classic conservative blouse and I mean that in a good way!!  I love taking things that are ‘straight-laced’ &  funk them up by pairing it with something modern & fresh.  If the thrift store GODS loved me just a little bit more and lead me to say a Stella McCartney or Dries Van Noten skirt then it would be a perfect balance.  Sadly they did not!  Every woman should have ample supply of James Perse tops in her wardrobe.

LBD by Phoebe Couture….

This LBD by Phoebe Couture, a line by Kay Unger, is simple & chic so you really can’t ask for much more.  Kay Unger is a sophisticated fashion brand and the Phoebe Couture brand has a more edgier and playful approach to fashion.  I’m loving the layered ruffled skirt hem of this LBD by Phoebe Couture and if my Genie granted me a wish I would wish that I could find these studded platform booties by Christian Dior in a thrift store to go with this LBD.  Sometimes you just have to wish and then wait for things to come your way and knowing the Thrift Store GODS the way I do, get ready……  Stop by Doubletake my social media driven boutique in Atlanta and friend me on Facebook & follow me on Twitter…. be STYLISH go green.  Daniel your luxury curator!

WEEKLY Re-Cap of vintage thrift luxury goods….

First let me say that I LOVE hearing from you and sharing your luxury items you found second hand.  If you have 4-6 pieces of luxury clothing you found in a thrift store or estate sale please snap some pics and write me a brief story so I can publish it on the blog.  Secondly let me just say thank you Thrift Store GODS for leading me to all the luxury I found I this week.. Thank you!!!  I found Giorgio Armani, Ronen Chen, vintage Escada, Jil Sander, Burberry, Versace, vintage Diane von Furstenberg & Max Mara.  That’s just what I found not to mention my letter from a fellow thrifter sharing her story with us.  I believe we can build a high end luxury wardrobe by shopping second hand, it might take some time but believe me adding vintage luxury into your closet is well worth the wait.  Slow and steady wins the race!!  Keep keeping it ‘green‘ and thanks for your support….  Daniel

Another thrifter’s loot ….

Here is another fellow thrifter’s loot & story.  I really love hearing from people and seeing what you are finding out there in thrift stores, it always blows me away.  If you have 4-6 pieces of over the top luxury items you’ve found in thrift stores or estate sales please snap some pics and write me a story and I will publish it on my blog…..  Ok here we go:

Daniel,
These are some of the things that I have found while thrifting.  I did not pay over $20 for any of these items and some were only $1.99!  The Escada skirt is 100% cashmere and such a lovely sherbert color that I couldn’t believe that it still had the tags on it when I found it.  I have worn all of these items to work or out on the town and always get compliments.  I wanted to point out that because of your blog, I took a chance on clothes that I would not normally choose for myself.  The Kisca shirt is really beautiful and the picture really doesn’t do it justice.  In the past I would not buy a lot of clothes with a pattern because I am afraid I would get it home and then never wear it because it didn’t look right with anything. But when I saw this shirt, I loved it! and I took a chance on a crazy pattern and now I am more confident in wearing them.  Now I don’t know how I had a wardrobe with out them.  So, Thank You!  You have expanded my tastes and I am all the more STYLISH because of you.

Chic & sexy Max Mara wrap dress…..

To me there is nothing sexier than finding a gorgeous Max Mara wrap dress, made from rayon & cotton, in a thrift store that is in pristine condition.  This dress is a just another fine example of great craftsmanship and timeless design.  Italian fashion has many different and diverse styles, there is  the over-the-top baroque (Versace, Dolce & Gabbana & Pucci), then there is the intellectual with an arty bent (Prada & Marni) and finally the restrained modernists (Armani & Max Mara).  There’s room for them all, so long as the designers keep faith with what they do best, and celebrate those unique identities for all they’re worth.  Max Mara is firmly in the most classic camp and this black & navy dress is another fine example as to what this label does best: deliver.  Max Mara always delivers classic & streamline clothing that can take any woman from decade to decade in classic STYLE.  Friend me on Facebook & follow me on Twitter…..  Be STYLISH go green.  Daniel your luxury curator!

Vintage Diane von Furstenberg 2 piece…

I flipped when I saw the label because you all know I’m just a big ole tag hag.  Diane von Furstenberg vintage 2 piece I found on half off day at Value Village Thrift Store has a powerful punch.  I am a paisley lover but in this case I think overkill in the word for the day so I would separate each piece, I would put the top with a pair of skinny jeans and the pleated skirt with a modern Stella McCartney top.  Mix it up, shake it up and stir it up. Mix – shake – stir is what you have to do not only in life but when it comes to vintage pieces.  Vintage pieces have  a strong voice and therefore you have to pair it with something a little more quieter.  I’m not saying that this outfit couldn’t be worn  together but if I had a client that wanted this look then I would hunt for a pair of Brian Atwood heels and a Versace belt.  Take your modern pieces and blend them with your vintage for that over the top chicness…..  Friend me on Facebook and follow me on Twitter….  Be STYLISH go green.  Daniel your luxury curator!

It’s always a good day to find Burberry & Versace….

It’s always a sunny day when I find Burberry & Versace just waiting for me to come salvage them.  Both of these brands are uber luxurious and known for quality & craftsmanship. This short gray Burberry skirt came out of its womb being a classic just like the navy Versace jeans.  The doctor spanked them, they both cried and their mothers held them with loving arms.  Burberry & Versace oh my.  I’m loving the new Burberry ads featuring Eddie Redmayne & Cara Delevingne and if you haven’t seen My Week with Marilyn  he (Eddie Redmayne) portrays the young man that fell in love with Marilyn during the filming of The Prince and the Showgirl.  Go see that film…. So it’s great to see him in the new Burberry ads.  To me when I hear the word Italy I automatically think of Versace At the age of 25 (1972)Gianni Versace moves to Milan and designs his first pret-a-porter collections for Callaghan, Genny & Complice. In 1978 the Gianni Versace company is launched with a women’s wear collection in Milan.  I hope all your days are sunny….  Friend me on Facebook and follow me on Twitter…..  Be STYLISH go green.  Daniel your luxury curator!

Vintage Escada skirt & Jil Sander white slacks…

The label inside the Escada wool skirt trimmed in leather was a giveaway that it’s truly a vintage piece.  It says made in Western Germany and this is the 2nd vintage Escada skirt I’ve found with that label.  This means the skirt was made before 1990.  Escada is a luxury brand that clawed its way back from bankruptcy and sales are up 7% from last year so that’s good news for this chic brand.  This brand was written off as dead and today Escada is fresh and new again.  Just 5 days into bankruptcy proceedings, the company was sold to Indian steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal.  The Mittal family is said to have paid 70 million Euros for the company itself and a further 30 million for development.  Thank goodness this brand was salvaged just like how I salvaged this skirt only I didn’t spend 100 million Euros!!!  I love this gray wool with leather trim skirt, it’s a true classic in every sense of the word.  I later within the same thrift store found these white Jil Sander slacks and you know I love Jil Sander.  Raf Simons stepped down as creative director of Jil Sander  and yes Jil Sander has stepped back into her brand.  This is exciting on every level because the name behind this iconic luxury label has gotten back into the drivers seat and she is strapped in…..  Just in life things change and evolve.  Friend me on Facebook and follow me on Twitter.  Be STYLISH go green.  Daniel your luxury curator!

Giorgio Armani jacket with very contemporary slacks by Ronen Chen…

You know my mission is to go out daily and hunt down luxury goods and blog about them so when I find a new designer to talk about it gives me great pleasure.  I found this gorgeous Giorgio Armani jacket and I love the timeless streamline construction of it and then I found these Ronen Chen slacks that almost slapped me silly.  I think the construction of these slacks are so contemporary and fresh that it makes the Armani jacket really pop.  Now I’ve blabbed so much about Armani during my blogging years but nothing about this Ronen Chen so here goes.  Ronen Chen is one of Israel’s leading fashion designers for women’s clothing.  He has 17 successful years of experience in the fashion industry behind him.  Ronen Chen is designed to appeal to the niche market of the sophisticated 30 + woman.  She appreciates a brand who designs with her figure in mind, resulting in easy to wear, comfortable, STYLISH and flattering shapes.  Friend me on Facebook and follow me on Twitter… Be STYLISH go green.  Daniel your luxury curator!

WEEKLY Re-cap of fabulous vintage luxury second hand clothing…

This week was action packed and filled with luxury.  I tell people everyday that luxury brands are out there and waiting for you to salvage them.  Adding a piece here and a piece there into your wardrobe that you picked up from thrift stores or estate sales is the ‘greenest’ form of shopping there is.  If you are going to add luxury into your closet please make sure it’s recycled & second hand because we all can do our parts in helping to keep this planet healthier.  Ok so here is the tally for the week:  Badgley Mischka top, Dries Van Noten slacks, Weekend by Max Mara top, Norma Kamali top, Lafayette 148 top, Giorgio Armani slacks, Lafayette 148 top, 3 vintage pieces by Gloria Sachs, 120% Lino dress, Cynthia Vincent dress and then the “creme du dessus” was getting this email from Lilia showing us all her luxury she salvaged from thrift stores.  Lilia found DVF, Lanvin, Missoni, Burberry, Versace, Valentino, Gucci, Max Mara, Moschino & Escada and each piece is in pristine condition.  Adding a piece of ‘recycled’ luxury into your closet may take some time but isn’t it worth the wait?  If you have 4-6 pieces of luxury clothes please snap some pics and write me a brief description and I would love to publish it on The Thrifters blog.  Thanks for keeping it  green Lilia!

This fellow thrifter almost gave me a heart attack from all the luxury she found..

When I received Lilia’s email I almost had to call 411 no wait I meant 911…. I can’t tell you just how much I love hearing from people who thrift for their luxury labels and find perfectly immaculate pristine pieces and they wear them not caring which season or years it’s from but for the simple fact that great design is always timeless.  Thank you Lilia for shopping ‘green’ and being a part of the sustainable lifeSTYLE.  If you are like Lilia and have 4-6 pieces of truly fabulous recycled luxury pieces please snap some photos and write me a brief description and I would loveeeee to publish it on my blog… Here is the letter with photos so enjoy:

Hi Daniel,
I love your Youtube channel, your enthusiasm for thrifting and finding fabulous clothes is really contagious! I have been shopping at thrift stores for a long time, and the big inspiration is my mom’s wardrobe. She taught me how to recognize the quality in clothes: the matching pattern, the details that make a big difference and the construction..qualities I look for every time I go thrifting.
And of course your videos, every time you show a piece it’s like a diamond found in the mine!
I constantly feel amazed with all the labels I see at the thrift stores (due to hardcore fashionistas and sample sales in NYC?) and I just wish Goodwill had better prices… Attached you will find photos of some of my rescues :D
Cheers,
Lilia

Pink linen dress by 120% lino & brown silk dress by Cynthia Vincent…

I love that I get to blab about not 1 but 2 designers I haven’t spoken of before.  The pink linen dress by 120% lino made in Italy & the Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent brown silk dress are my new virgins so I have a lot to blab about…  120% lino (linen in Italian) is a brand that was born in the 80′s from passion.  I can’t stress it enough to please click on and watch the video from 120% lino website and you’ll see what I’m talking about.  I love the way this company hand dyes each piece in video.  120% lino is a highly sought after brand, made up of easy to wear STYLES in vibrant colors.  Designed & produced in Italy, the classic contemporary basics range, that promotes a European-inspired cool edge, is made from the highest quality linen.  Ok so now it’s Cynthia Vincent’s turn.  Twelfth Street became an instant hit among socialites & celebrities with silk crepe de chine slips, copious sweaters & velvet boudoir jackets among the signature items in her collections. Designer Cynthia Vincent’s collections exude easy sophistications.  Producing thoughtful silhouettes and inspired prints season after season.  Cynthia Vincent creates pieces that are timeless and her work encourages women to express their individuality and find themselves in her clothes.  I love how both 120% lino & Cynthia Vincent brands are all about the clean lines and simplicity rather than loud obnoxious “trends”….  Committing yourself to great STYLE doesn’t have to be difficult it’s actually rather fun…  Friend me on Facebook and follow me on Twitter.  Be STYLISH go green.  Daniel your luxury curator!

3 pieces of Gloria Sachs from 2 thrift stores in 1 day….

LARD have mercy because I haven’t seen this label in a million years floating around the thrift stores but this day I found 3 pieces of Gloria Sachs.  I was at Goodwill when a STYLISH lady said to me “excuse me but are the thrifter guy???”  We couldn’t stop chatting and then Nancy said ‘I saw this gorgeous Gloria Sachs skirt over here and put it back’.  She showed me where it was and then minutes later I scored this Gloria Sachs silk blouse.  I said to myself this is very unusual to find 2 pieces from this designer that I haven’t seen in forever.  Later I leave and hit another thrift store and scored the black velvet skirt.  3 Gloria Sachs pieces from 2 different thrift stores all in 1 day. WOW is right… This designer is amazing and here’s why… Gloria studied painting with Fernand Leger in Paris in 1949,  she studied architecture with Gio Ponti & Franco Albini in Italy… Gio Ponti is one of my favorite architects that designed some of the most amazing furniture and I actually own a Gio Ponti table that I pillaged from a thrift store years ago and paid $35 for it and one just like it sold on 1st bids for $4,500.  Gloria worked as a model for Balenciaga & Balmain in Paris in 1949, she worked as a textile designer for Hans Knoll & Herman Miller.  She established her own business on Seventh Avenue in 1970.  Her first designs established her as a smart, casual separates designer.  Mix & match pleated skirts, jackets and coats teamed with tailored shirts where particularly distinctive.  Sachs is famous for her clever development of textile designs in her fashion.  Her fantastic creations were sold at Saks & Neiman Marcus and unfortunately the early 90′s proved to be difficult for Sachs and closed her business.  If you ever see Gloria Sachs in a thrift store, estate sale or your granny’s closet GRAB IT….  Stop by Doubletake my social media driven boutique in Atlanta and friend me on Facebook & follow me on Twitter…  Be STYLISH go green.  Daniel your luxury curator!
