Michael Kors paisley print blouse with BCBG black elegant jacket.

Paisley never goes out of style.  I know that’s not a news flash, it’s just good old fashion knowledge.  I found this Michael Kors size medium dressy tank top and love the old world charm of the paisley print.  Michael Kors knows exactly how to capture the classics and give them a modern twist and that’s why he is one of America’s hottest fashion designers.  Michael Kors label includes women’s ready to wear, swimwear and accessories, including handbags, small leather goods, belts and shoes, as well as eyewear and timepieces for both men and woman.  In 2009 First Lady Michelle Obama chose a Michael Kors gown for her first official portrait, Mrs. Obama continues to wear Kors on a regular basis.  I also found this BCBG black nylon/cotton jacket inside the same thrift store and thought they would look smashing together.  Check out the detailing in the up close photo of the jacket’s button and stitching, this shows the contemporary edge BCBG is known for.  Individually or as a complete outfit this ensemble looks and feels ‘today’.  This outfit would look spectacular with these Rock & Republic black legging.  Comfortable, stylish, modern and ever so FAB rest assured this garb will have heads turning your direction.  Check out The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, also please enjoy and share my YouTube videos on thrifting.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

Hale Bob & Ella Moss comfortable summer tops.

It isn’t everyday that I find a brand new Hale Bob,  with the original price tag just tangling in the wind, waiting for me to save it.  This ultra contemporary cotton tube top, size small,  has that classic abstract design I love.  It ties at the side and hugs the body, can you ask for anything more lovelier than that?  You could but would need to go to Hermes for that….  Daniel Bohbot is the name behind this brand, he was born in Casablanca and moved to Paris when he was 4.  He emersed himself in the art, music, film and architecture of the city of lights.  At Hale Bob they create clothing that sets women apart from the crowd.   Their number 1 priority is to make women feel beautiful, comfortable and confident.  Doesn’t that say just about everything you want to hear from a brand?  The second Summery top is once again modern and contemporary by design,  Ella Moss spaghetti string sized medium.  Pamella Protzel Scott is the designer for this brand and words like hip, quirky and fashionable are not only words to describe the Ella Moss collection, but its founder and designer.  She is a LA girl at heart and with enough vision to make Ella Moss one of the fashion world’s hottest contemporary collections in just a few short years.  Pamella has always found inspiration in art, fashion, people and in her travels.  After college, Pamella was hired by Moise Emquies and began working for him at his company, Mo Industries.  For the next 3 years, she worked with Moise on Leopold ( a t-shirt, home and intimates line) until they decided to join forces and create Ella Moss ( named after Pamella’s nickname “Ella” and Moise’s nickname “Moss”).  Designed to be comfortable, fashionable and casual, but with a bit of an edge, the brand reflects the personalities of its creators.   I love how both tops were created by individuals who admire and respect art, it was the love of art that propelled them forward.  Brilliant I say brilliant.  Don’t forget to shop at The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, also please share and enjoy my YouTube videos on thrifting.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

I got a Paul Smith & Brioni shirt on this thrifting adventure.

This thrifting adventure was just all about Daniel and how many more shirts he can squeeze into his closet.  How in the world can you pass up a Paul Smith white button down shirt, even if it isn’t your size?  The XL tag didn’t fool me one bit because I happen to know first hand that Paul Smith runs smaller.  I’m a size 151/2 or large depending on the cut and design so when I saw the size as XL on this Paul Smith shirt I didn’t flinch.  You must try everything on and never go by label size, never.  So I added another Paul Smith to my wardrobe and I can’t even begin to tell you just how happy I am.  Paul Smith is one of my favorite designers, he does 12 different collections, accessories, shoes, fragrances, watches, pens, furniture and ‘things’, rugs, china and now he has delighted us all by launching a new collection of tableware to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Stelton.  Paul Smith has been a long time admirer of the Danish designer Arne Jacobsen and when  Stelton asked him to ‘re-invent’ the iconic Cylinda collection, he put his classic Paul Smith signature all over it.  I admire this designer because he thinks outside the box and is quite visionary.  The other shirt I found was this Brioni French cuff shirt that is so my size and fits like an Hermes glove.  Brioni is uber luxurious and classic, if you find one in the thrift store PLUCK it for yourself, you’ll thank me later.  Check out The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, also please enjoy my YouTube videos on thrifting and pass the videos on to your friends.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

Robert Graham blouse with Cynthia Steffe culottes.

I love this Indian inspired long sleeve sheer cotton Robert Graham blouse, size 6, but then again I love anything Robert Graham.  Since 2001, Robert Graham has captivated consumers with an aesthetic experience that pushes the boundaries of the status quo.  Each piece is an unconventional work of art designed for an individual who exudes confidence and a distinctive identity.  The Robert Graham consumer is a connoisseur, an individual capable of discerning nuances who appreciates products of high quality and unique caliber.  I found these black cotton Cynthia Steffe long culottes, size 14, that has a pocket on the lower right leg.  That added pocket gives these slacks a boost of creative design but that’s what Cynthia Steffe does best.  Cynthia Steffe is recognized as one of America’s leading contemporary fashion lines.  The clothing has been featured in the pages of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, InStyle, Glamour, and a host of other major magazines. Her line offers luxurious statement pieces alongside stylish basics and is available in fine specialty stores worldwide.  I think this Robert Graham blouse with these Cynthia Steffe culottes ensemble look simple chic and that’s the look you want. For Summer you want to look and feel comfortable and yet STYLISH, wearing either one of these brands will provide you that reassurance.  Don’t forget to shop at The Thrifers Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, also please enjoy and share my YouTube videos on thrifting.  Toodles for now.  Daniel.

Jil Sander ultra light weight jacket with Marc Jacobs black wool skirt.

All I could think of when I plucked this Jil Sander jacket from the rack was ‘why wasn’t this jacket for men?’  I love my Jil Sander,  the gods know I do,  and I’ve been waiting for a Jil Sander mens jacket in my size (40) for quite some time.  Don’t get me wrong I’m extremely grateful for finding this jacket, I’m just nudging the GODS to throw me a bone!!  Since 1973, when Jil Sander – who had worked as a fashion editor and freelance designer in Germany – launched her line with a series of monochrome jackets and trousers, her name has been synonymous with minimalism.  In 2000 Sander sold her label to Prada in hopes, she said, of expanding her shoe and accessories businesses.  She and Prada’s chief Patrizio Bertelli clashed and Sander left after 4 months.  Jil Sander did return to the runway under Prada’s watch in 2003 and had 3 highly successful collections before she and Bertelli clashed once again.  In 2005, the Belgian designer Raf Simons was appointed creative director.  This jacket size 6 is timeless as the day it was made, that’s the sheer brilliance of Jil Sander.  I found this gorgeous and ever so luxurious Marc Jacobs black wool skirt size 8 that looks fantastic with the jacket.  Both items radiate with simplicity and simpleness, how in the world could you go wrong with those qualities????  I can never say it enough LESS IS MORE, and that applies to just about every damn thing.  Check out The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, also please enjoy and share with your friends my YouTube videos on thrifting.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

Laundry by Shelli Segal ruffled sweater with one big Juicy Couture white denim jacket.

I think a skin tight Michael Stars tee under this black Laundry by Shelli Segal sweater would make a nice statement.  The added ruffles on this sweater gives it that extra zinger that only Shelli Segal can provide.  If you’re looking for a modern contemporary design look for Laundry by Shelli Segal and I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.  I found this white denim Juicy Couture jacket size large that looks fantastic with the light weight sweater.  The rough edges, the heart shaped on the backside – it all is your classic Juicy Couture creations.  Juicy Couture is a contemporary line of both casual and dressy apparel based in Los Angeles and founded by Pamela Skaist Levy and Gela Nash Taylor.  Juicy Couture is marketed as a high end clothing line at an affordable price, and is aimed at women ages 10-26, but looking at the construction of this jacket I think it’s ageless.  Gela Nash Taylor ( wife of Duran Duran’s John Taylor) and Pamela Levy decided to create their own fashion label and the company has expanded into cosmetics, jewelry, handbags, fragrances and a whole lot more.  I admire the hell out of people who have a dream and then make it come to fruition.   Being creative is one thing but actually following through on a vision is another and these 2 woman have my upmost respect.  I say get in there and kick some butt in this lifetime.  Shop at The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, also please enjoy and share my YouTube videos on thrifting.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

A vintage Schiaparelli scarf with a City DKNY black nylon jacket.

It’s a piece of art -  that’s it -  pure and simple.  When I pulled this Elsa Schiaparelli scarf from the sock bin inside the thrift store, you could have seen my grin turning up the turbo !  Will you just check out that pattern, is that not so 60′s psychedelic fabulous or what???  This is my first Schiaparelli item I’ve ever found while thrifting and if I pray a little harder to the Goddesses it won’t be my last.  Elsa Schiaparelli was an Italian fashion designer born in 1890 and died in 1973.  Along with Chanel, her greatest rival, she is regarded as one of the most prominent figures in fashion between the two World Wars.  Starting with knitwear, Schiaparelli’s designs were heavily influenced by surrealists like her collaborators Salvador Dali and Alberto Giacometti.  She was an innovative woman and fashion designer and had a lot of “firsts” in the fashion industry.  Her career began with her introduction of graphic knitwear to the world of fashion with knit patterns and emblems.  These led to her fanciful prints of body parts, food, and many more unusual themes.  She was the first to use brightly colored zippers, appearing first on her sportswear in 1930 and again 5 years later on her evening dresses.  Not only was she the first to use colored zippers, but she was also the first to have them dyed to match the material used in her garments.  Wait it gets better because  remember me telling you that she was innovative well Schiaparelli had 12 Commandments for women:

1. Since most women do not know themselves they should try to do so.

2.  A woman who buys an expensive dress and changes it, often with disastrous result, is extravagant and foolish.

3. Most woman (and men) are color blind,  They should ask for suggestions.

4.  Remember 20%  of women have inferiority complexes.  70% have illusions.

5.  90% are afraid of being conspicuous, and of what people will say.  So they buy a gray suit, they should dare to be different.

6.  Women should listen and ask for competent criticism and advice.

7.  They should choose their clothes alone or in the company of a man.

8.  They should never shop with another woman, who sometimes consciously or unconsciously, is apt to be jealous.

9.  She should buy little and only of the best or cheapest.

10.  Never fit a dress to the body, but train the body to fit the dress.

11.  A woman should buy mostly in one place where she is known and respected, and not rush around trying every new fad.

12.  And she should pay her bills.

I know I’m rambling so I’ll wrap this up, I paired the scarf with this gorgeous black nylon City DKNY jacket.   Yes you heard me correctly a jacket, who buys jackets in the Summer, me – I do !  This is a super chic jacket that worn with this scarf the world could be eating out of the palm of your hand.  Check out The Thrifers Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook and watch and enjoy my YouTube videos.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

One ultra mod Jill Stuart suit.

I’m not kidding but my aunt back in the 70′s had this very similar wallpaper pattern as this Jill Stuart 2 piece size 8 suit does.  When I first saw this suit hanging on the racks I almost coughed it up.  This is the coolest striped 70′s influenced pattern I’ve seen in awhile so I’m really just taking it all in right now.  Launched in 1993, Jill Stuart’s eponymous line is said to have really taken off when pieces from the collection were used in the 1995 movie Clueless.    Today, the brand earns over $30 million annually in the U.S. but fares even better in Asia, grossing closer to $100 million.  Jill’s mother, a former designer, and daughter Morgan all have joined the company making this one big family affair.  When she designed her Spring 2010 collection she said that women like Charlotte Gainsbourg and Marianne Faithful were women that inspired her, she said these 2 women aren’t affraid of mixing prints and silhouettes and textures.  I put this ensemble together with this pink Romeo & Juliet Couture blouse which I had already previously blogged about, because I felt the pink was strong enough to take on that mod print.  I think these Robert Clergerie platform black loafers would look mucho fabuloso with this Jill Stuart outfit.  Check out The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, also please enjoy and share my YouTube videos on thrifting.  Toodles for now.   Daniel

Ann Ferriday lace blouse & Rocco Barocco blouse, it’s a blousy kinda day.

I don’t know how this happened but it did, both blouses are black – gold – brown.  How in the world did I manage to do that and from the same thrift store no doubt??  The GODS work in mysterious ways is all I can say.  I first found this size small Ann Ferriday lace with nylon, rayon, spandex and a touch of satin in the bow.  Ann Ferriday grew up in Vancouver Canada and moved to England at the age of 15 where she designed custom made leather stage outfits for the likes of David Bowie and Elton John.  She quickly opened up 3 boutiques whose cornerstone was her unique mixture and style.  She then moved to Paris where she perfected couture and draping skills at Esmod, the first and oldest fashion school in France.  What followed was the birth of the Ann Ferriday collection which was quickly carried in the most cutting edge shops in Paris and throughout Europe.  She has expanded her business to Los Angeles and her lifelong love of vintage clothing, along with her passion for trend tracking has created a modern look with a nostalgic feminine seduction that is unmistakable Ann Ferriday.  I love that her passion is vintage clothing, that is so right up my alley.  The next blouse I found was the Rocco Barocco size 10 and made in Italy.  Rocco Barocco, one of Italy’s most beloved and successful fashion designers, offers a fine taste of Italian beauty in fashion wear, high end accessories and perfumes.  Rocco Barocco delights in using black, black & white, and optical effects in his line of fashion wear.  In fact, Rocco exults in repeating his creative patterns throughout fashion lines, creating somewhat of a defining moment.  With tons of faithful followers such as Liza Minelli who was instrumental in bringing his creations to America!!  So thank you Liza for bring this luxury brand to our land, we love you….  Check out The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook and please enjoy and share with your friends my YouTube videos on thrifting.  Toodles for now.   Daniel

C.C. Couture white light weight jacket with a classic white Lacoste shirt it’s white on white today.

There is something about white that makes me just feel clean and I have no idea what that is… I have 2 favorite colors orange and white both I can’t get enough of.  I love orange so much I painted our front door orange in our old house and I have a 60′s white wool Jens Risom sofa that actually came out of a thrift store many years ago.  There is something about the color of white that just makes things look and feel clean, or at least in my mind it does.  I love this short sleeve Lacoste cotton top and think it can go with just about anything.  Lacoste is a classic, a tried and true French staple.  Symbol of relaxed elegance since 1933, the Lacoste brand, built on its genuine sporting roots, offers a unique and original universe through a wide range of products for men, women and children.  Christophe Lemaire was the artistic director for Lacoste dishing out simple, sporty chic and he aced it.  Lemaire has previously worked for Yves Saint Laurent and Christian Lacroix.  Recent news is that Christophe Lemaire stepped down from his position at Lacoste to replace Jean Paul Gaultier at Hermes where he has worked for Hermes for 7 years.  This is MAJOR can you imagine going from Lacoste to Hermes in one swoop?  I know I always get sideswiped so back to my posting, I found this very Summery and ultra light weight cotton C.C. Couture jacket that I think the detailing is impressive.  C.C. Couture offers high quality clothing at accessible prices that is perfect for every woman’s lifestyle.  C.C.Couture is designed to take women from day to evening and from work to weekend with looks that are both flattering and versatile.  This brand is available at top specialty boutiques nationwide.  It’s a brand that is created for all ages who appreciate luxury and style.  Next time you want to feel clean just throw on a white top and think of me.  Check out The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, also please enjoy my YouTube videos on thrifting and whore… I mean share with your friends !!!   Toodles for now.  Daniel

James Perse black cotton tee with a Jill Michelle black skirt…

Black is the perfect color for Summer as far as I’m concerned, it goes with anything, the color makes you look slimmer and plus it’s just looks SEXY.  I can never find enough James Perse tees in the thrift stores and you can never have enough of them in your closet.  James Perse is a multi-talented designer with duvets covers, sheets, pillow cases & shams, blankets and throws, cashmere & wool shams, furniture, custom built vintage style beach cruiser bike, surfboards and paddle boards, cool dog beds & dog bowls, tricycle which is a 70′s inspired design and last but most important ping pong tables.  That’s right the custom James Perse ping pong table is branded with the Malibu beaches graphic, the table is durable for both indoor and outdoor,  and there is also the James Perse ping pong paddles and balls.  This Los Angeles designer is branding himself as an innovative and insightful creator.  I totally respect his direction and vision and I guess that’s why I love his simplistic designs.  Ok I know I got way off course here but I just wanted to show you just how talented James Perse is, so I put this black James Perse tee with this Jill Michelle black cotton skirt size 4.  The skirt is trimmed in mint green so it gives you that extra punch.  I have Googled Jill Michelle and tried to research this designer but really came up empty handed, I did find an article from the New Yorker magazine that mentions the name of some boutique in New York City that carries her designs but that’s it.  If you know anything about this talented designer please inform me.  The message of this posting is ‘wear black’.  Check out The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, also please enjoy and share my YouTube videos on thrifting.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

Charles Nolan white wrap top with Alberta Ferretti black long skirt….

It’s not every day you run into Charles Nolan and Alberta Ferretti in the thrift stores but thank the GODS above that they indeed hang out there.  This sleeveless white cotton with spandex size xl wrap blouse by Charles Nolan is pretty damn hot I would have to say.  After honing his all American style with the likes of Ellen Tracy and Anne Klein, Charles Nolan ventured out on his own to open his first signature shop in New York City in 2004.  This white crisp wrap blouse is one of his signature creations, the construction of this blouse demands attention and won’t settle for anything less, and why should it?  Pairing the white top with this Alberta Ferretti long black wool skirt size 12 has the style volume cranked way on up.  The daughter of a dressmaker, Alberta Ferretti opened her first boutique in Italy at the age of 18, and designed her first collection in 1974.  She founded her eponymous label in 1980 and showed her ready to wear collection on the catwalk in Milan the following year.  The line has gained a following for her ultra feminine cocktail dresses and red carpet worthy evening gowns in fluttery bolts of chiffon, draped georgette, charmeuse and satin.  I can see someone wearing these Emilio Pucci slingback sandals drinking a cappuccino inside the Louvre Museum cafe getting ready to rest her eyes on the infamous Mona Lisa painting.  Be sure to check out The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, also please enjoy and share my YouTube videos on thrifting.   Toodles for now.   Daniel

Nicole Miller long dress and A.B.S by Allen Schwartz multi color sassy dress.

I’ve got to tell you this Nicole Miller strapless dress, size 8, is not only elegant but ultra chic.  Made of acetate and spandex it contours every curve of the human body beautifully…  That is what really defines Nicole Miller as an outstanding American fashion designer, she is fully aware of the woman’s anatomy and all its secrets.  Her labels creates for the modern woman, the woman who can multitask and still make time for a pedicure.  The other dress I found at the thrift store is this multicolor A.B.S by Allen Schwartz dress size 6 that is reminiscent of a classic Missoni print.  The pattern is so subtle and powerful that the less accessories you wear with this dress the better.  Less is more has always been my motto.  When you look at the construction of both dresses you realize that to be true.  Simplicity is always the solution never the problem.  Both dresses have the potential to bring about inner self confidence like you’ve never seen before !  I would recommend to my clients that you could wear either dress to Starbucks for coffee & gossip or dinner at Alto restaurant in New York.  Don’t forget to check out The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, also please enjoy and share my YouTube videos on thrifting.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

t-bags cotton top & BCBG silk scarf poncho blouse with basic Tahari black slacks.

Don’t ever listen to anyone if they tell you that you have to many black slacks in your closet.  That would be the biggest pile of %$#@ and flat out one big lie.  You can never have enough black slacks in your wardrobe – never.  These Tahari black slack size 8 with rayon and elastic are a staple and plus they just look FAB with both tops.  The first top I scored was the extra soft cotton t-bags Los Angeles size small with the modern print.   t- bags is the creative vision of two young designers – Shadi Askari and Su-Lyn Tay epitomizes sexy, sophisticated and instinctive style.  Exhilarating free flowing signature prints and bold solids are alluring pulsed by flavors of bohemian chic and vintage charm; reflecting the inventiveness, personality, and wit that drives each collection.  t-bags started in 2001 as a handbag line after Shadi, a graduate of Boston University, and Su-Lyn, a graduate of Nottingham University in the UK, met while completing post graduate degrees in merchandising.  t-bags crosses the border from retro and rock star glamour to a unique blend of playful sophistication.  The second top is this BCBG silk scarf poncho that when I first spotted it,  was in the scarf bind of the thrift store.   I was pleasantly surprised to quickly learn it wasn’t a scarf but indeed a blouse.  Both top rock with these classic Tahari black slacks and you can go from getting a manicure to dinning at The Four Seasons all within a flutter of an eyelash.  Don’t forget to check out The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, also please enjoy and share my YouTube videos on thrifting.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

Vintage Soo Yung Lee from Neiman Marcus silk dress and a black simple dress from Nougat London.

Judging from the age of the Neiman Marcus label inside the Soo Yung Lee silk dress I would have to guess it’s from the early 80′s.  I have tried to do some research on this label and came up really empty handed, I tried….  I think this sleeveless silk dress is just outstanding, it’s timeless and simple.  This dress looked great in the 80′s and looks even better today, especially if you were to wear these Elizabeth and James black wedges.  To me there is nothing better than mixing vintage with something modern, you capture it’s true essence that way….  I also found this black elegant dress by Nougat London size 0.  Nougat London was established in 1990 as a fashion label in London’s West End.  Nougat London’s clothes are instantly recognized as being beautiful garments, combining classic styling with a contemporary twist but always remaining undeniable feminine.  I think these Missoni pattern heels really complement the detailing in the black dress nicely.  The only way I can see justifying spending that kind of money on these shoes is from all the savings when you shop at the thrift store but please don’t let me be THE BAD SEED.  Shop at The Thrifters Boutique and please follow me on Twitter & Facebook, and please enjoy and share my YouTube videos on thrifting.  Toodles for now.  Daniel
