Rayure white blouse with Calvin Klein made in Italy black wool slacks.

I put together a very European ensemble all within one swoop of a thrift store.  I found this ultra luxurious Rayure white blouse made in France size 44 or USA size 14, which isn’t a true 14 by any means, this blouse is more like a size 6.  It is made from spandex and nylon so it could possible stretch to a size 14 but that would be stretching it!  Sometimes I don’t know where these European designers come up with their measurements, really I don’t.  I LOVE my Italian and French designers but you just have to try everything on and never go by what the tag says.  Ok getting back to the white Rayure blouse RAYURE is based on a timeless fashion design concept of black and white colour, which took influence from “stripes” It is also realization of a young French designer’s dream and the unification of a couple’s love in 1993.  Fascinated by the wonderful world of fashion since young, Cindy BENHAMOU became a fashion designer through the influence of her seamstress grandmother.  After pursuing her fashion studies at the ESMOD Fashion School, Cindy went on to enrich her experience and hone her design skills with well-known French Haute Couture designers, Franck Sorbier and Jerome L’huillier.  With the support of her husband who has a wealth of experience in fashion retail, RAYURE has grown to be an international and luxury niche brand over the years under the strong teamwork of the couple.  I found these gorgeous Calvin Klein made in Italy wool slacks size 6 that I think look terrific with the Rayure blouse, talk about black / white.  Francisco Costa is creative director for Calvin Klein collection for woman and was named Womenwear Designer of the Year 2006 by the Council of Fashion Designers of America.  Assured the role of creative director of the CK Collection for women after working directly with Calvin Klein and other top design houses such as Gucci, Balmain Couture and Oscar de la Renta.  The simplicity of the construction of these black slacks are timeless and elegant so when you put that Rayure blouse on, you know you’re walking, breathing & being in total European style.  It’s all yummy like Godiva chocolates….Check out The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, also please enjoy and share my YouTube videos on thrifting.   Toodles for now.  Daniel

Theory blouse with Karen Walker khaki green casual slacks.

Nothing says Summer any louder than this mint color Theory blouse size small with a hint of nylon and spandex.  When you pair this Theory blouse with these Karen Walker khaki green casual slacks with the wooden bead for the button can you say ‘take me to Nantucket please’ a little louder?  Karen Walker is a fashion brand with a reputation for its original, effortless and unpretentious style.  Karen Walker shows each season as part of New York fashion week and has permanent showrooms in London, New York, Tokyo and Sydney.  Her collections are high casual with one foot in tailoring and the other in street wear.  The reoccurring theme is taking extremes and pushing them together – masculine and feminine, tailored and street, luxury and non luxury, dark and super cute.  Karen Walker was awarded the 2007 Prix de Marie Claire award for best creative talent and is stocked in over 350 stores throughout the world.  Celebrities such as Bjork, Sienna Miller, Beth Ditto, Jennifer Lopez, Claire Danes, Cate Blanchett, Liv Tyler, Kate Hudson, Claudia Schiffer, Drew Barrymore and Madonna all favor her work.  I would have LOVED to have found these Missoni espadrilles to complete this Summery outfit.  Don’t forget to check out The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, also please enjoy and share my YouTube thrifting videos.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

Rene Derhy top with black velvet 7 for all Mankind slacks.

It’s the artist in me that is such a sucker for pop art and modern graphics on shirts and blouses, that’s why I fell all over myself when I saw this Rene Derhy cotton blouse.  This French company was established in 1969 and was one of the first companies to import fabrics to design Indian inspired tunics and colorful decorations that were inspired by the hippie movement of the 1960′s.  Think Hendrix at Woodstock !  I found these gorgeous elegant black velvet 7 for All Mankind slacks that I believe are brand new.  7 for All Mankind launched in Los Angeles in the Fall of 2000 and was the first company to truly bring premium denim to scale, marking Los Angeles as denim’s venerable center for research and development worldwide changing the landscape of denim forever.  The label exploded onto the scene, quickly earning critical acclaim and an immediate following for its innovative use of fits, fabrics, and finishes in denim.  The brand’s offerings continue to expand through innovative collaborations with highly regarded designers such as The Great China Wall, Zac Posen, Azzedine Alaia, Evan Yurman and Pucci.  I personally would love to get my hands on a pair of Pucci designed denim!  This ensemble is fun, sexy and extremely modern as if there is anything else you would need in life…..  Stop by The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, also please enjoy my YouTube videos on thrifting.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

Paul & Joe cotton blouse with vintage Aquascutum paisley skirt.

I am no longer a virgin when it comes to never finding Paul & Joe in the thrift stores.  So you can only imagine how psyched I was when I plunked this blouse, made in France, off the rack and saw the label.  If I have to say so myself I did pat myself on the back.  Paris based Sophie Albou founded the small but successful clothing line Paul & Joe in the mid 1990′s, and accrued a devoted legion of stylish fans for her whimsical & eclectic designs.  The company is named after Sophie’s 2 boys.  Albou opened boutiques in London’s Notting Hill neighborhood and the rest is history for this brand since the collections sells in 30 flagship stores worldwide as well as in major retailers.  Within the same thrift store I found this vintage Aquascutum paisley print long skirt that I think looks modern with the Paul & Joe blouse.  Joanna Sykes was just recently appointed at creative director for this label so everyone is eagerly awaiting her touch.  Sykes is British, was educated at Central Saint Martins in the 90′s and learned how to do things in a European luxury goods house (Armani in Milan).   All that puts her in the demographic to which her sister alumni, Phoebe Philo of Celine, Stella McCartney, and Hannah MacGibbon of Chloe belong – a cohort of women who, already at the top of their game in their 30′s, are on a quietly feminist mission to bring a bit of sense to fashion.  I’ve always heard how the French and English don’t get along, well you can just throw all that out the window with this ensemble.  Check out The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, also please enjoy and share my YouTube videos on thrifting.   Toodles for now.   Daniel

Cynthia Rowley & Laundry by Shelli Segal little black dresses.

How many little black dresses does one need in ones wardrobe?  Why count is what I say.  Having a great simple black dress hanging in your closet is as a necessity as having food in your frig, gas in your car or toilet paper in your bathroom….are you getting this???  Having a great simple black dress in your closet is most important.  I found this really fancy Cynthia Rowley long formal dress size 10 in pristine condition.  Cynthia Rowley is an American fashion designer and native Chicagoan.  Known for what The New York Times has called “flirty, vibrantly colored dresses and tops in wispy materials” that have “a whiff of the carefree spirit” of Claire McCardell.  Cynthia Rowley launched her business in the early 1980′s with $3,000 from her grandmother.  You’ll love this but several months into her business she held a fashion show in her apartment, invited every major fashion editor in NYC, Andy Warhol and other famous movie stars —none of whom she knew and none of whom attended !!  I love her gumption and gusto – in fact I admire the hell out that.  The second dress is Laundry by Shelli Segal size 6 and is a bit on the fun side of life,  carefree yet elegant and simple.  Both of these black dresses can drive you to the party with the STYLE volume cranked way up and that’s how you should roll…….  Check out The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, also please enjoy and share my YouTube videos on thrifting.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

PierAntonio Gaspari fabulous skirt.

There is so much detail on this skirt it’s just hard for me to even begin.  Every square inch of this well constructed skirt, size 8 and made in Italy by PierAntonio Gaspari is breathtaking.  This would be the kind of skirt you would need to score that big entrance you’ve been wanting.  PierAntonio Gaspari, a predestined and an enthusiast experimenter.  Born around knitters and knitting machines in the family company and growing up he learned the secrets, tricks and shortcuts of the trade, and he was fascinated by it.  As soon as he finished high school he asked his father to let him start designing, and so he began to design knitwear, and by 30 years old he was ready to start his own line.  No limits and no obstacles exist for his imagination as you can tell by looking at this skirt.  If I have said it once I have said it a million times on my blog ‘leave it to the Italians to be visionary!’  I wish that I were lucky enough to have also found this Galliano blouse to go with the skirt.  I know don’t push it Daniel just take what the GODS give you and run, run like someone got on the microphone and announced that everything in Hermes must go NOW and so everything is 99% off.  See what kind of an imagination I have???  I know I’m twisted..  Check out The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, also please enjoy my YouTube videos on thrifting.  Toodles for now.  Daniel.

Max Mara sleeveless top with MAG by Magaschoni slacks and a Steven Alan button down shirt dress!

Any day you find a Max Mara sleeveless cotton blouse, size medium,  in the thrift store is a good day by me.  I love that this blouse is a turtleneck so if you wanted to wear a fabulous vintage necklace, say for example this William Spratling necklace made in Taxco Mexico in the 1930′s, you could in style.   Wearing this ultimate stylish Max Mara blouse with a piece of Spratling jewelry not only would you completely turn every head but every eye in the room would be on YOU.   Later while I was skipping through the tulips I stumbled on these M-A-G by Magaschoni slacks that have the identical shade of green as the Max Mara blouse.  What are the chances of finding 2 different items by 2 different fashion houses that come together so beautifully?  Slim to none.   Did I also mention that they came out of the same thrift store?   Magaschoni’s philosophy is to create distinctive looks for the modern, self confident woman who craves functionality in a stylish wardrobe.  Established in 1989, this brand is synonymous with luxury.  The lifestyle driven company embraces the highest standards of creativity and quality.  Magaschoni is known for its special attention to color and that would be obvious by the abstract pattern on these slacks.  I found this striped button down Steven Alan made exclusively for Barney’s Co-op shirt dress size petite.  Steven Alan, a native New Yorker, has been a leader in the fashion world on many different levels.  Having started as a retailer with stores in downtown Manhattan, he garnered a following of artistic young customers searching for clothing that was original and unique.  This dress is a classic Oxford button down with a twist, you have got to love that.  Don’t forget to shop at The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, also please enjoy and share my YouTube videos on thrifting.   Toodles for now.  Daniel

Piazza Sempione striped pink blouse with Pringle of Scotland white denim capri pants.

It’s a rare occurrence to even find Pringle of Scotland in the thrift store more or less the perfect Summer white color in excellent condition, I’m batting a touch down here!  Pringle of Scotland has a unique place in British culture and the international world of luxury fashion knitwear.  It is one of the oldest names in the Scottish borders, the birthplace of the British knitwear industry.  Founded in 1815 by Robert Pringle it became one of the first luxury knitwear brands in the world.  Pringle has been knitting cashmere since the 1870′s and created the term knitwear when a knitted garment was worn as outerwear.  This became an instant success and a trend that has lasted to this day.  Pringle has been a favorite of the stars and high society since the 1940′s.  Original champions of the brand include Jean Simmons, Deborah Kerr, Grace Kelly & Brigitte Bardot.  After three centuries of knitwear and GLAMOUR Pringle started a new chapter in 2000 with a new brand vision dedicated to restoring the luxury fashion heritage.  Testament to this was the appointment of Clare Waight Keller in 2005 as Pringle’s first creative director.  Her collections are now presented during Milan fashion week.  Academy award winner Tilda Swinton is the new face for the house.  I put this gorgeous pink striped cotton Piazza Sempione sleeveless button up blouse size USA 12 with the white denim capri pants by Pringle of Scotland for a one two Summer punch.  These Jean Paul Gaultier flats with a bow made in Italy would look STELLAR with this ensemble.  Don’t forget to shop at The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, also please enjoy my YouTube videos and share with your friends.  Toodles for now.   Daniel

Versace skin tight tango dress.

I have no earthly idea what the actual dress is named but from looking at this Versace dress wouldn’t you call it “The Tango Dress?”  Sloan was going to join us for a round or two of thrifting but had to pass, so Umie and I hit the thrift stores hard and will you just look at the fruits of our labor !  Umie came up to me and handed me this dress and said “I think you need to see this” so when I saw the label we both lost it.  Can’t you just see some Argentinian woman with a red rose in her mouth doing the Tango in this LOVELY dress??  I sure can and wish I were there to see her strut her stuff on the dance floor.  Umie and I just looked at this dress and I said “Oh honey you know this one has a story or two.”  This dress is a USA size 4 made of Viscose so every inch and every curve is spotlighted and loved.  Viscose is a viscous organic liquid used to make rayon and a French scientist and industrialist Hilaire de Chardonnet invented the first artificial textile fiber, artificial silk in 1891.  At first contact I thought this dress was indeed silk but with a label like Versace I wouldn’t care if it said Polyester !  All you need for this dress is a pair of Bloch Simona tango shoes and off to Argentina you go.  Be sure to send me a postcard or two!!  Check out The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, also please enjoy and share my YouTube videos.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

I have a theory on how 3 Theory skirts ended up in a thrift store.

Ok here are the facts: I got 3 Theory white cotton skirts, all different sizes and all within the same thrift store.  The first skirt is size 4, second is size 6, and third is size 8.  Those are just the facts so what I’ve decided because I’m the DECIDER here is that 3 different women decided to hand over their Theory skirts to the same thrift store because it was some sorority initiation in which the girls had to donate their favorite white skirt to a thrift store.  So each of the girls had to give up their favorite white Theory skirt in order to be inducted into the sorority sisterhood.  If that’s not the real reason then I have no Earthly idea what was the rational behind this bizarre phenomenon.  Theory was founded in 1997 on the principle that men and women want to feel comfortable and sexy in modern clothing.  Theory continues to evolve and grow its global presence while remaining grounded in its founding principle: a simple design philosophy, clean silhouettes, quality, craftsmanship and fit.  These Burberry wedge sandals are just the ticket for any of these Theory skirts.  Don’t forget to check out The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, also please enjoy my YouTube videos on thrifting.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

Bebe & BCBG tops with Theory jeans and one dress to Laundry by Shelli Segal.

I thought it would be nice to be able to put together 2 jazzed up outfits for day time.  The first one I put together is the Bebe and BCBG tops with the Theory denim jeans.  Either tops would totally elevate the jeans into a whole new level of sophistication and you would be able to rest assured that the FASHION POLICE wouldn’t come knocking on your doors.  The BCBG top has the sequins on it that gives this top a bit more of a punch and it’s a size small, while the Bebe top is a size medium with spandex gives this top an extra squeeze!  For the second outfit I found this simple, elegant and very Summery pink linen Laundry by Shelli Segal sleeveless dress size 6.  I love the modern cut of the front pockets on this dress.  Both ensembles would look absolutely fabulous with these Diane von Furstenberg black flats.  The one thing I most encourage people on a daily basis is to put a little more jazz into their daily attire.  Boys and girls throw away those white sneakers, ball caps, and NFL t shirts and get your groove on.  Shop at The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, also please enjoy and share my YouTube videos on thrifting.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

Bebe elegant pink top with vintage inspired Ellen Tracy black cotton long skirt.

This ensemble looks like you could waltz right into the Four Seasons George V Hotel in Paris and act like you own the damn joint.  Doesn’t this pink Bebe blouse size small and made of lycra look regal as well as on the Summer side of life?  The skirt is a vintage inspired long cotton size 10 Ellen Tracy skirt that is reminiscent of something Audrey Hepburn wore in the movie ‘Roman Holiday’.   To me this entire outfit just reeks of class, sophistication, and good old fashion elegance.  These little Emilo Pucci flats would be just the ticket in town especially if you were in Paris for the Summer and who doesn’t want to spend the Summer in Paris????  Sign me up honey I would go over there and rape and pillage every damn thrift store in my sight.  Well not rape but gently make love to every thrift stores in Paris.   I really love putting together clothes that are so simple by design and yet when combined with something really spectacular it just POPS.  You don’t need to spend a fortune creating that old Hollywood glamorous look you just need eyes that can edit.  Stop by The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, also please enjoy my YouTube thrifting videos.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

Nicole Miller Studio dress and a BCBG dress hit an Iceberg vest.

I have to be honest with you I was floored when I spotted this Nicole Miller Studio dress with the gold lame trim around the collar.  The dress is made of silk with spandex and will you check out that abstract pattern?  Nicole Miller is so contemporary and designs for the modern woman for sure but did you also know that she is in favor of all programs that protect the Earth and our environment, she actively supports The Rocky Mountain Institute and Robert Kennedy Jr’s Riverkeeper.  The Riverkeeper is an independent, member supported environmental organization founded on the premise that citizens themselves must roll up their sleeves to defend our waterways.  Participating in saving the environment to shopping in thrift stores it all jazzes me up.  I also found this gorgeous simple BCBG spaghetti string denim with spandex dress size medium.  This dress is cute and sexy!  I would love to see these See by Chloe black leather modern ankle boots with both dresses but I can ONLY see those boots if I found them in the thrift store !!  I do know how to make people look like they are on the Forbes list without draining their bank account.  Finally I found this gorgeous gold lace vest by Iceberg made in Italy size 10.  Iceberg was set up in Italy in 1962 by Silvio and Giuliana Gerani.  Initially they made knitwear but then branched out into garments.  Today their son Paolo Gerani looks after management and finance, and their daughter Patrizia is the creative director.  Throw on a Michael Stars tee under that vest with some skinny jeans and off you go in style.  Speaking of off you go please check out The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, also please enjoy and share my YouTube videos on thrifting.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

Versace mens knit top + James Perse casual dress + ABS Allen Schwartz fancy dress.

I’ve been seriously looking for mens Summer shirts lately and when my eyes spotted this Versace classic V2 mens knit shirt I knew instantly that I had just picked out my favorite Summer 2010 shirt.  At first glance my eyes saw the collar and initially thought I had discovered a Missoni shirt, needless to say I am just as happy with finding a Versace as I would a Missoni.  The shirt has a little wear on the waist band but nothing my Alessi clothing shaver can’t solve.  Never let a little pilling stand in the way between you and Versace.  With one big smile on my face I headed over to the womens section and found these 2 dresses.  First one was the James Perse khaki ultra soft cotton tank dress size 4.  In 1996, James founded his first namesake collection of women’s knits, which soon developed into two distinctly wearable collections: Standards James Perse for high quality basics and James Perse Los Angeles ready to wear items.  I love JP minimal architectural influenced clothing, sophistication with simplicity.  What more does anyone need?  The second dress is a bit on the fancy cocktail side, it’s a spaghetti string ABS by Allen Schwartz black size medium, which says ‘step aside let me through please’.  Both dresses live on the opposite side of the spectrum, one is more casual and comfortable while the other is more regal and upper crust with a twist of pizzazz on the side.  Both dress have their function in life, just like my new favorite Versace shirt.  Don’t forget to stop by The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, also please enjoy my YouTube videos on thrifting.  Toodles for now.  Daniel
