Donald J Pliner and Isaac Mizrahi.

Who doesn’t love finding a great pair of shoes especially a pair of Donald J Pliner?  Did I mention that they were $4.00 too?  These incredibly sassy high heel boot shoes size 7.5 are the richest shade of brown imaginable.  Visionary designer Donald J Pliner launched his line of luxury footwear and accessories in 1989, and immediately established a reputation for innovative design and high style for both men and women.  Pioneering new materials, such as stretchable micro fibers, he also brought unprecedented comfort, flexibility and lightness to footwear.  Today, this global brand,

manufactured in both Italy and Spain, has established an almost cult following among men and women who were originally attracted by the fashion forward style and return again and again for the comfort and craftsmanship.  These sexy pistol shoes can go from office to evening in a twitch.  Next I discovered these white ultra stylish denim slacks size 10 Isaac Mizrahi that button on the side.  They are so sexy and hot and for $5.00 they are even HOTTER.  Mizrahi has always loved to expose the behind the scenes action with his theatrics and with his clothes and for Spring 2010 he unveiled raw edges, hints of deconstruction, and jackets with unfinished lapel’s in his let’s put on a show.  “I still believe,” Mizrahi said, “that fashion has to be gorgeous and colorful and fun.”  That’s entertainment and that’s why we LOVE Isaac Mizrahi.  I think these denim slacks and Donald Pliner high heel boots would look incredible with this Chloe organza silk blouse.  I spent a grand total of $9.00 for 2 really luxurious brands today and I think I just might have to treat myself.  Don’t forget to shop at The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook.  Check out my YouTube videos on thrifting too.  Toodles for now.  Daniel.

Isaac Mizrahi slacks with Tahari silk top.

Where can you get a 2 piece Tahari jacket & top for $5.00?  Neiman Marcus? No. Saks? No.  Keep trying….

yes at a thrift store.  It never ceases to amaze me just what I can find out there in thrift store la la land but every damn day I’m a happy man.  Elie Tahari’s mission is to design clothing of the finest quality and attention to detail for customers looking for fashion and value in luxury ready to wear.  I then found a pair of Isaac Mizrahi black wool dress slacks for $5.00.  Isaac Mizrahi studied fashion design at Parsons and as a leader in the design business for more than twenty years, Isaac has been awarded four CFDA awards, including a special award in 1996 for the groundbreaking documentary “Unzipped.”  In September 2009, Isaac opened his first freestanding shop in New York City, the shop showcases his ready to wear, accessory, and couture collections.  I love how chic and classic these Mizrahi slacks look with the Tahari silk top.  This is a perfect look for daytime or office and for evening all you have to do to jazz it up some is put the jacket on and step out on the town.  For $10 I configured a gorgeous and prime ensemble that takes you from day into night, looking like you own the damn world.  The noise you hear right now is me patting myself on the back.  Shop at The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, and enjoy yourself to my YouTube videos on thrifting.   Toodles for now.  Daniel

Armani Collezioni jacket with vest by Nan and Genny skirt.

I have no earthy idea why lately I’ve been finding the luxury Italian brand Genny.  I think some rich woman with exceptional taste, cleaned out her closet,  donated all her Genny items to the same thrift store.  I came along and gobbled them all up.  This orange – my favorite color in the entire world – wool skirt size 12 was $2.50.  I found this super cool knit vest by Nan for $2.29.  I have Googled trying to research this label and came up empty handed,  so if you have any insight into this label please let me know.  I just think it is so hip and vintage that it’s HOT.  Finally I found this Armani Collezioni cream jacket size 10 for $5.00.  Armani Collezioni’s philosophy is simple: “contemporary, nonchalance, appeal and elegance.”  There is absolutely a good reason why Giorgio Armani is Italy’s leading designer and it’s because of his design vision.  Always creating classic and timeless pieces in each of his collections, buying Armani is an investment.  Buying an Armani in the thrift store is pure luck.  Don’t forget to shop at The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook .  Check out my YouTube videos on thrifting…..Toodles for now.  Daniel

Blumarine jacket with Yansi Fugel skirt.

How often do you get the opportunity to buy a BRAND NEW Blumarine jacket for $2.50? The jacket has some puncture holes on the front jacket but I have a creative idea as to how I will cover those holes up.   Opportunities like that are far and few between so given the blessing I took the jacket and ran.  Anna Molinari’s nickname sums her up perfectly: The Queen of Roses, on account of her fondness for these magical and sensual flowers which represent the image of the Blumarine label and symbolically embody its ideal of femininity.  For Anna Molinari fashion is a mix of sensations and cultural influences, a return to the past and a vision of the future.   I found this Yansi Fugel black skirt size large that appears to be brand new for $2.50 as well.  The Yansi Fugel company and design studio are based in New York City where she has emerged as a major force in the fashion world.  She designs several ready to wear collections a year that are sold throughout the USA and Canada in over 400 specialty boutiques.    Iconic cashmere wrap design is worn by Madonna and becomes a sensation with celebrities and the public in 2008.  $5 got me 2 incredible pieces of luxury and one knockout ensemble.  What I would LOVE to put with this outfit is this Stella McCartney one shoulder top.  HOT HOT and on fire baby.  Don’t forget to shop at The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook.  Check out my YouTube videos on thrifting.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

2 Genny jackets, Romeo & Juliet Couture and Lucia blouses.

If finding a hot pink blouse by Romeo & Juliet Couture doesn’t say SPRING then I don’t know what will.  This gorgeous sassy blouse size small screams the arrival of warmer temperature and it doesn’t come a moment to soon.  Founded in 1999 for the European market, the collection is currently available at Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Fred Segal, intermix and fine specialty stores.   Any one of the Romeo & Juliet Couture tops are a perfect compliment to one’s favorite pair of jeans.  I paid $4.00 for this amazing top.  I found 2 Genny made in Italy jackets, the orange color is size 8, the cream one is size 10, they both were $5.00 EACH.  I remember Genny from the 1980′s it was very expensive and sold in Neiman Marcus and Saks.  Named after their first child, Genny was the brainchild of Arnoldo and Donatella Girombelli, who founded the company in 1961.  Genny is typical of a number of Italian fashion companies manufacturing high fashion lines designed for them by leading names in the industry, yet launched under the company’s own label.  Donatella, after the death of Arnoldo assured a leading role in the company.  She continued her husband’s policy of employing top designers to create lines for the Genny label and have included a who’s who of top designers like Stefano Dolce & Domenico Gabbana, Gianni Versace, Claude Montana and Guy Paulin.  Finally I found this gorgeous silk top by Lucia.  I love the dark brown with the blue fern print on front.  GORGEOUS I say GORGEOUS.  The Lucia blouse was priced at $4.00.  I spent $18.00 here on 2 Italian jackets by Genny and 2 ultra cheeky tops.  Isn’t it fun to have people think you drive a Bentley when they see the way you’re dress, when in reality you drive an Escort?  Don’t forget to shop at The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook.   Check out my YouTube thrifting videos… Toodles for now.  Daniel

Scherrer blouse jacket and Jenne Maag slacks.

I have to be honest with you when I saw this blouse / jacket Jean Louis Scherrer hanging on the crowded rack I almost poo pooed in my pants.  Born in Paris JLS studied ballet before entering the fashion world.  He worked as an assistant to Dior and learned cutting and draping alongside a yound Yves Saint Laurent.   In 1962 he founded the Jean Louis Scherrer label and his collections have been described as elegant and sophisticated, sexy without being vulgar.  This piece is so versatile it can be worn as a blouse or you can wear a blouse under it and wear it as a jacket, follow me?  It’s super chic and cool and when I saw the label my heart sank.  This is truly a vintage piece of haute couture.   It is made in France of 100% silk and I can barely stomach to tell you the price but it was $2.29.  I also found these gorgeous ultra chic Jenne Maag black stretchy

slacks size medium -6- and again I paid $2.29.  Jenne Maag’s success has been in her understanding of the flattering powers and subtleties of stretch fabric.  She has a keen sense of fit and tailoring allowing women to play up their own taste and create an individual and stunning style.  Bergdorf Goodman used to carry her line but no longer.  For under $5.00 I created a complete look one that includes a piece of vintage Haute Couture.  Again can I say “only in the thrift stores.”  Don’t forget to shop in The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook.  Be sure to check out my YouTube videos about thrifting.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

Donna Karen bolero with Anne Carson blouse and Penny Black slacks.

This little cream color size petite Donna Karen bolero jacket for $2.50 is just the ticket.  The jacket is made of a blend of silk and linen,  so you know it feels rich.  The mission for Donna Karen brand as a design driven company, is to represent the international pulse of New York in the design, marketing and delivery of a complete lifestyle system to a global customer.  Founded on an intuitive understanding of a woman’s needs and desires, her exclusive collections embodies the ultimate in luxury, sensuality, comfort and creative expression.  Always utilizing the finest quality fabrics, workmanship and technological innovation.  I found this Anne Carson,

whom I  never heard of , accordion texture 100% silk for $2.29.  I just love the construction, design and of course texture of this blouse and thought it would look fantastic under the bolero jacket.  Then I scored these Penny Black, made in Italy size 44 or USA 10, draw string wool dressy as hell slacks.  Penny Black is a look for women of today, and of the future.  It is produced and is part of the MaxMara Fashion Group and was established in the late 1970′s aiming at creating the pleasure of wearing fashionable clothes.  These slacks were also $2.50.  I spent $7.29 on this ensemble and when my client wears this outfit she will look like she’s not taking any prisoners !  Why chit chat when you can cut to the chase.  To me there is nothing finer than looking and feeling like a million bucks.  Don’t forget to shop at The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook.  Check out some of my YouTube videos about thrifting.   Toodles for now.  Daniel.

Nicole Miller and a dash of Valentino.

I haven’t figured out how two brand new Nicole Miller dresses could end up in thrift stores,  but I promise I’m working on it.  It’s just so bizarre and mind blowing that this could indeed happen but it does and thank the GODS above that I am right there to salvage.  The black sassy – fancy – cocktail dress with studs along the neckline size 10 and the casual velvet size medium dress were both $5.00 EACH.  These dresses still maintain their “new smell” aroma.   An American born to a French mother, Miller was dually trained at the Rhode Island School of Design and Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne.  Her fine arts background in painting and sculpture at RISD inspired a spirit of freedom and creativity.  I salvaged this GORGEOUS Valentino skirt size 8 for a whopping $2.50.  The skirt in front is straight while on the backside is pleated, making this design modern and tasteful.  I spent $12.50 and purchased 3 luxury brand items, now where in the world can you shop that “green” for so less?  No place but the thrift stores and thank goodness we have them.  Thrift stores are all natural environmentalist, they accept donated items and shoppers (me) buy them instead of buying brand new items from the malls.  I say support your local thrift stores and update your wardrobe!  Please don’t forget to shop at The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook. Louis Vuitton blazer and Issey Miyake mens shirt.

I honestly don’t know which one I was more surprised at finding, the Louis Vuitton blazer or the Issey Miyake pullover top.  Ok so let me begin,  I started my day by stopping over at a consignment store called Career Fashion Consignment where the owner Judi was holding the Louis Vuitton blazer for me.  The consignment store was cleaning out their Winter wears and since this blazer had sat there patiently waiting for someone to pluck it from purgatory, it had been discounted down to $20.00.  Now you guys know normally I wouldn’t even consider paying $20.00 for a blazer but all my logic flew out the window when I saw the label.  I know I’m such a label whore.  This blazer fits me like a Vuitton leather glove, now that I like.    Later at a thrift store I found this Issey Miyake 100% wool pullover mens top that fits me like the other Vuitton glove, for $1.00.  A one dollar bill bought me a Issey Miyake damn shirt, can you just swallow that?  Issey Miyake is a Japanese fashion designer that founded his company in 1970.  He is known for his technology- driven clothing designs, exhibitions and fragrances.  Issey Miyake basic philosophy is the continuing focus on both the importance of imagination and the development of new technology in which to make clothing.  He is one of my absolute favorite designers and this is my very first piece, so yes I’m grinning.  I love looking like a million damn dollars having spent only $21.00 in the process.  Call me what you like but please call me thrifty.  Don’t forgot to shop at The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook.  Enjoy yourselves to watching my YouTube videos on thrifting.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

Trina Turk blouse goes great with Ralph Lauren and vintage Courreges suit.

When I picked up this light blue 2 piece suit by Courreges I almost came apart.  I don’t come across this brand very often in thrift stores.   This is a vintage 2 piece dress suit with the petal cut skirt and the most gorgeous shade of light blue you have ever seen.  Andre Courreges is the master of space age design.  The Parisian designer became popular in the ’60′s for his futuristic, yet simple collection.  Courreges shot to couture stardom in the mid 60′s with his Moon Girl look  Revolutionary in their styling, his clothes were sharp, angular and subject to a highly disciplined design.  Arguably, Courreges’ greatest contribution to the fashion world was his low heeled, calf high boots made of white plastic.  LOVE HIM.  This vintage size 8 wool dress suit, made in France,  was priced at $2.50.  I know you’re probably tearing up now, who could blame you?  The next item I plunked from the rack was this pink Ralph Lauren 100% silk jacket size 8P.  Ralph Lauren has always stood for providing quality products, creating worlds and inviting people to take part in our dream.  This jacket was also priced at $2.50.  Finally I found  a Trina Turk modern blouse size P for $2.00.  Inspired by the multicultural mix, architecture, and landscape of Los Angeles and California, The Trina Turk Collection is full of the Season’s most casually sophisticated – and “must have” silhouettes.  This Trina Turk blouse looks EXCELLENT with both the vintage Courreges suit and the modern cut jacket by Ralph Lauren.  This is why I think Trina Turk’s designs are invaluable.  Something old something new  + Trina Turk = DYNAMITE. Norma Kamali skirt with a BCBG blouse and one big old fake Hermes top.

I can’t even begin to tell you how long it’s been since I’ve heard, seen or even mentioned the name Norma Kamali.  I remember she was huge in the early 1980′s and everyone I knew had a piece of her in their closets.  She has always been knows as an innovative designer who follows her own path.  She invented the sleeping bag coat , her swimwear influenced an entire industry each season since her first collection in 1974, she received numerous awards and fashion design honors, lots of Coty awards.  The black feathery dress photo is from their ads, and that dress cost $3,000.  When I saw this black skirt it really did take me back to my Dallas Texas days.  This skirt is a size medium and I handed it to Umie and asked her to please model it for me so I could snap this photo.  This skirt is all about the drape and Umie would spin and that skirt would come alive.  I had found this BCBG blouse, size medium that has an Asian theme to it, and again asked Umie to model.  Umie found this gorgeous cashmere sweater made by Karen Nilem from Italy, the sweater has a purple stripe that runs along the bottom, giving it a modern touch.   Umie found this Hermes cotton top and within seconds we made the discovery that it was a FAKE.   Sloan said its a fake by the way the label was sewn in, I said turn it inside out and lets see if there is a care label inside.  There was no care label or for that matter a label that said “Made in France”.  Lesson here look at labels and always look inside for care instructions and country of origin.  I always look for made in Italy or France, that’s just because I’m a big old snob.  Please follow me on Twitter & Facebook.  Toodles for now. Giorgio Armani does some Laundry.

What does Beyonce, Mischa Barton, Hayden Panettiere, Eva Longoria, Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, and Carrie Underwood all have in common?  They are all Hollywood fasthionistas that love and adore Shelli Segal’s Laundry.  Whether business cocktail or dinner date, baby shower or bridal party, the label offers the perfect dress for every occasion.  I scored this Laundry black blouse size small and the off white casual slacks size 6, from the same thrift store.  The blouse I paid $3.25 and slacks were $5.25 so for $8.50 you have one rocking Hollywood ensemble.  The Giorgio Armani rayon dark khaki slacks size 14 were from the same thrift store and again I paid $5.25.  Giorgio Armani known for his clean, tailored lines formed his company Armani in 1975 and by 2001 was acclaimed as the most successful designer to come out of Italy.  Armani achieved his international breakthrough by tailoring for numerous Hollywood names and especially for Richard Gere in American Gigolo in 1980.  Don’t forget to shop at The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook. Dunhill sweater, Michael Stars tee, Theory jeans with Ungaro slacks.

Finding Dunhill in a thrift store is like having a cigarette after sex.  Cary Grant on the occasion he would visit London, Dunhill was often on his list of destinations.  The Duke of Windsor was known in 1920′s and 1930′s society for his impeccable style, affable manner and wide social circle big fan of Dunhill.  Picasso spent a large portion of his creative time in Paris and it was here that he frequented the Dunhill Paris shop to purchase lighter for lover Dora Maar.  I paid $4.29 for this sweater and every time I wear it I will think about Cary, The Duke, and Picasso.  I found the Theory jeans size 6 and handed them over to Umie and said “buy these” she smiled and said “you know I will”.  Soon after I found the Theory jeans Umie found the Emanuel Ungaro size 6 stretchy gray striped slacks.  In September 2009, Estrella Archs was appoinnted as Chief Designer for the women’s ready-to-wear collection of Emanuel Ungaro.   The jeans and slacks were both $5.25 each.  I grabbed this Michael Stars tee and said this would look fabulous with the jeans / slacks and in my opinion Michael Stars looks great with anything.  The Los Angeles Magazine said “Michael Stars is the 20 year old T-shirt company many credit with giving birth to the trend for fitted T-s.”  Michael Stars dresses many of Hollywood’s A-listers including Halle Berry, Jennifer Garner, Jessica Biel and Natalie Portman.  The tee was $4.00 and has a cut that can be dressy or casual, either way you wear it it’s going to be hip and comfortable.  When Umie and I got back to my house she tried the Theory, Ungaro and Stars on and to her horror none of them fit.  This particular thrift store does not allow people to try items on so we  just had to gauge it.  You win some you lose some and with a small investment it doesn’t really matter.  We all go through great length to find the perfect ensemble don’t we?  Don’t forget The Thrifters Boutique and please follow me on Twitter & Facebook.  Be sure to check out all my videos I’ve made about thrifting on YouTube.Toodles for now.  Daniel

MaxMara jacket, Neiman Marcus tunic and a Theory.

Umie came over so we could hit the thrift stores but before we left she raided my closet.  She stepped into the room and I just started handing her things I had already pillaged from the thrift stores one piece at a time.  First I asked her to try on this ultra casual and yet stylish MaxMara linen jacket which fit her like a damn Blumarine leather glove.  Emerging from the difficult atmosphere of postwar Italy in 1951, Achille Maramotti opened his menswear business under the label MaxMara.  Though the line has been designed in the past by such notables as Karl Lagerfeld, Jean Charles de Castelbajac and Narciso Rodriguez, it’s a behind the scenes team effort today.  Next thing I handed her was this SO DAMN SEXY tunic by Neiman Marcus that I had pillaged from a thrift store and paid $2.00.  This sexy tunic can be worn with leggings or as I reminded Umie those satin dress MaxMara slacks I gave her for Christmas would look like she cranked up the volume as loud as she could.   The final thing I let her try on was this Theory terry cloth dress with hoodie.  I can see her wearing this dress with her best Blahniks.  Adorable and attractive is what this Theory dress says loud and clear.  Theory was founded in 1997 on the principle that men and women want to feel comfortable and sexy in modern clothing.  I would have to say that about sums it up wouldn’t you?  Umie looked like a million damn dollars in each piece and I had spent a total of $9.29 for all 3.  It’s a natural high for me to see Umie looking STYLISH and spending very little in the process.  Don’t forget to check out The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook.
