Prada does Laundry?

I plucked this Prada cotton top from the racks, grinning from ear to ear, walked over to show Sloan who busted out laughing.  Sloan said “are you kidding – PRADA?”  The super fabulous thing about thrift stores is you never know what you are going to find.  Prada was founded in 1913 in Milan, Italy as a manufacturer of leather bags.  What is known today as Prada is mostly the work of the founder’s grand daughter Miuccia Prada.  Her interest in unusual fabrics led to the distinctive trademark of Prada products: the surprising combination of materials.  Prada is said to be the most prominent example of a new form of inward-directed luxury.  While in the 80′s luxury was explicitly displayed, today an understated luxury is sought, only recognizable by insiders.  Thus, Prada clothes avoid very loud clouring and easily appealing appearances.  They are described as cool, comfortable, pure, graceful, and minimalistic.  This gorgeous orange size large cotton blouse was priced at $4.39.  I found this super cool short skirt by Laundry with a big silver buckle and vertical zipper, this screams ROCK n ROLL.  This playful skirt size 6 was also priced at $4.39.  The Prada top with the Laundry skirt combined cost under $10.00, so now you know why I’m still grinning.  Stop by The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook.  Check out my YouTube videos about thrifting too.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

Tahari abstact top with Michael Kors dress suit.

What’s another word to describe this Glen Plaid pattern 2 piece dress suit by Michael Kors other than classic?  I know I can’t come up with another adjective either, even the color of this Glen Plaid is your classic color choice.  I found this gorgeous Tahari abstract pattern blouse that I think will take this suit from 0 to 59mph in 5 seconds!  Wearing this blouse with the MK’s skirt during the day time would be like getting pulled over by a traffic cop.  Wearing this blouse with the MK’s skirt with the jacket at night time would be like getting arrested for being to damn FAB.  This Michael Kor’s 2 piece classic suit was priced at $9.59 and the Tahari beautiful blouse was priced at $4.39, so for a grand total of $13.98 you have an ensemble worthy of ticketing.  Don’t forget to stop in The Thrifters Boutique and click, shop and love today, and please follow me on Twitter & Facebook.  If you haven’t already done so check out my YouTube videos on thrifting, it’s pure entertainment.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

Nara Camicie lace blouse with Piazza Sempione slacks and 2 Ben Sherman shirts.

I got really lucky when I arrived at Salvation Army because it was half off day!!!!!  To me that’s the ultimate high, I know I’m sick….  I found this gorgeous Nara Camicie ,made in Italy lace blouse,  with zipper that could be a blouse or a light jacket, it’s 2 for the price of one.  That one would be half off so that gorgeous blouse is $2.00.  Where in the world can you get a blouse / jacket for $2.00?  Walter Annaratone and his wife, Lina, established Nara Camicie in 1984.  It all started with a vision.  Walter and Lina had a main objective to create a winning collection of shirts and knits to capture and arouse everyone’s attention.  Each design is skillfully cut and made from the finest Italian fabrics.  What better slacks to pair this blouse with than Piazza Sempione?   Piazza Sempione’s collections are entirely produced in Italy and maintains the strong Italian sartorial tradition while at the same time introduces innovation and international flare.  God I love the Italians!  These size 4 cotton / lycra slacks were on sale for $2.50.  Finally for a whopping $4.00 I got not 1 but 2 Ben Sherman men shirts.  Ben Sherman was founded in 1963 by Arthur Bernard Sugarman, who was born in Brighton.  He emigrated to the USA in 1946, married the daughter of a Californian clothes producer and later went back to Brighton where he bought a concourse shirt factory.  The brand became famous for being sported by several well known musicians and singers.  These shirts retail for $89 each so I guess for $4.00 for two shirts I didn’t do so bad.  Please stop in The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook.  Have you checked out my YouTube videos I’ve made about thrifting?  Hop to it!  Toodles for now.  Daniel

Dolce & Gabbana skirt goes with Alberto Makali or Romeo & Juliet Couture blouse.

You honestly do get a little ‘high’ when you find Dolce & Gabbana in thrift stores,  at least I do.  When I first saw the D&G logo inside the black viscose skirt size 8,  I  just couldn’t help but spread the love everywhere.  There are certain labels you find often in thrift stores, I won’t name the names but they know who they are, Dolce & Gabbana isn’t one of them.  Domenico Dolce & Stefano Gabbana founded Dolce & Gabbana in 1982, showing their first women’s collection in Milan three years later to widespread praise.  Madonna famously wore one of D & G shirts in 1991 to the Cannes Film Festival, years later in 2010 she would appear in their ad campaign.  This classic skirt was priced at $5.25.  I founded 2 blouses that I think would l0ok killer with this skirt.  The first one is by Alberto Makali wild crazy mix of patterns with accordion fabric that completely hugs and contours the body.  Gorgeous just gorgeous.  The second blouse was this Romeo & Juliet Couture black sequined sexy as all hell top.  Founded in 1999 for the European market by David Shamouelian & Joseph Nazar, the collection is currently available at Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Fred Segal and many more fine specialty stores.  Each blouse was priced at $4.00, so for a grand total of $13.25 you have  2 completely different ensembles.  Don’t forget to shop at The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook.  Be sure to check out my YouTube videos I’ve made about thrifting.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

BCBG blouse with Thierry Mugler skirt.

The next time you see Sloan please ask her to show  you what my facial expression was the moment I discovered this Thierry Mugler champagne color skirt.  It was one of those Kodak moments.  At 20 years old, Thierry Mugler moved to Paris from Strasbourg France.  He starts his career at Gudule, the first “hip” boutique in Paris.  Two years later, he works as a freelance designer for different ready to wear fashion houses, traveling between Paris, London, Milan and Barcelona for 7 years, creating up to 12 women’s, men’s and children’s collections per season.  In 1973, Thierry Mugler brings out his first clothing line “Cafe de Paris”.  In 1974 he creates his own line, and in 1992, he designs his first haute couture collection.  He has ALWAYS been one of my favorite designers because he has ALWAYS  been light-years ahead.  This champagne color skirt was $4.39 can you even begin to absorb that?  I found this BCBG silk blouse also champagne color, I must have champagne on the brain.  I’ve always thought everyone should daily have a bottle of really good champagne, wouldn’t that make the world a better place?  I think so……  Make sure you stop in at The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook.  Looking for more entertainment, look no farther check out my thrifting videos on YouTube. Chanel Boutique blouse with Alice Roi slacks.

First just let me tell you that when I spotted this Chanel blouse my heart was filled with so much joy, it almost popped.  I plucked it from the rack, looked at the label and said to myself: ” I can’t believe this, this never happens.”  I then turned it inside out immediately to check for the care instruction tag and the little tag that says ‘Made in France’, sadly they were not there.  This really did break my heart.  For a brief second I thought I had scored the big one, discovered the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, stumbled on the true age of Zza Zza Gabor, found the Holy Grail…but no.  So I decided to take it anyways after all it was only $3.00 and how to say no to Chanel?  I kept hunting and thank the GODS above because I found these gorgeous Alice Roi gray slacks.  Since launching in 1999, the native New Yorker has cultivated a devoted following of downtown debs and uptown hipsters, not to mention a nomination for the CFDA Perry Ellis Award for Womenswear.  Roi does storybook chic with a sure hand and a steady dose of wit.  To quote Cathy Horyn from the New York Times : “Ms. Roi has a unique world.  And unless you go to the trouble to create a world, stocking it with characters and humor, you’ll always be limited to what you can observe rather than feel.”  These ultra sexy slacks were priced at $5.00, so you can throw on the Chanel’ISH blouse and grow a sense of humor.  Don’t forget to SHOP at The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook.   Be sure to check out some of my YouTube videos I have made about thrifting.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

Gold leather Ellen Tracy pants with a Ben Sherman blouse.

Oh my GOD I found these gorgeous gold Ellen Tracy leather pants that still had the tag with original price of $855.00 on it.  I was actually on the phone talking to Sloan that very moment and I laughed so hard when I told her that the original price tag was on it .  Sloan asked me what were they price at the thrift store,  I told her $9.99, she couldn’t believe it but what she really couldn’t believe is that these pants were half off so I got these brand new leather pants for $5.00!  Sloan kept saying OMG OMG OMG and I kept saying I KNOW IT’S CRAZY.  Ellen Tracy’s mission is to design for the woman who lives in the moment, not for the moment.   Ellen Tracy’s collection is polished, inspired and dynamic, as is the woman who wears it.  The brand believes style comes not only from what you wear, but what you do, who you are, and who you aspire to be.  I then found this brand new  wool blouse with silk trim by Ben Sherman marked at $1.00.  The blouse also has gold in it which would look super chic with the leather pants.  I guess today I was having golden showers (get your mind out of the gutter).  This golden ensemble was $6.00 and both were brand new, I’ll say it again I KNOW IT’S CRAZY.  Stop in at The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, and enjoy my YouTube videos on thrifting.  Toodles for now.   Daniel

Bebe top with Michael Kors velvet slacks.

I haven’t spent a lot of time doing my artwork lately and then quickly I realized that my artwork is taking on a whole new persona, which is my blog.  I realized that everyday we all wake up and face the world and how we choose to dress for that,  is our choice.   Each time we walk to our closets and pull out our daily uniform we are being an artist, we are painting our canvases for that day.  How the world sees us on our canvas is our choice.  Everyday I try to present to the world an image of style and creativity.  Last night I went to dinner with my friends Nena, Rhett and Mitch and I wore my Yamamoto black jacket I paid $4.00 for , a stretchy black dress shirt by Ben Sherman that I paid $2.00 and a pair of casual navy draw string pants made in Italy which I paid $1.00 for.  My entire outfit cost me $7.00 and most importantly I felt good, I felt good because I didn’t spend any money on my outfit and yet I walked into that restaurant I looked RICH.  You too can feel this good and dress this RICH if you shopped at thrift stores.  Ok I’ll stop, I just want everyone to get excited about dressing up more and feeling good about yourself and clothes have that affect.  I scored this brand new Bebe cotton blouse size small with the tag still on for $1.50.  I also found these Michael Kors brown velvet slacks size 8 that were priced at $3.99 but it was half off day so I paid $2.00 for velvet MK’s slacks.  This entire outfit cost me $3.50 and yet when my client wears this she can rest assured that she will feel GOOD.   Don’t forget to shop at The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook, also check out my YouTube videos on thrifting.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

Nicole Miller silk dress + Michael Kors swimsuit.

This flower print, 100% silk strapless dress by Nicole Miller size 4,  is brand spanking new.  The dress has silver sequins sewn in the flowers, giving it that extra glam boost.  I love the way Nicole Miller pays special attention to every detail, like for instance the lace trim at the bottom of the dress.  The dress is designed in silk which is sexy, has sequins which makes it glamorous, and then the lace and that’s just playful.  She covers all her tracks and does so beautifully.  I paid $5.00 for this BRAND NEW dress, isn’t that crazy?  Summer is fast approaching us and you know that when thrift stores are putting out swimsuits.   This Michael Kors, black and white bamboo print,  one piece size 6 is also BRAND NEW.  Wearing this swimsuit would be like wearing a neon sign that said : “Honey I know I’m HOT.”  This uber chic swimsuit was priced at $4.00.  I know what your thinking….you could wear the swimsuit under the silk dress to Diddy’s party then step outside and strip off the dress and go for a swim to cool your hot body off, while doing it all in style.  Being STYLISH doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg today, just be smart and thrift.  Check out The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook.  Enjoy yourself at my expense by watching some of my YouTube thrifting videos.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

Piazza Sempione & Trina Turk slacks with a BCBG wrap.

I believe you can never find or have enough Piazza Sempione. Piazza Sempione was founded by Marisa Guerrizio and Roberto Monti in 1990.  Their intent was to create an exclusive clothing and accessories line for women with a high component of technology combined with Italian sartorial tradition.  Marisa Guerrizio is creative director and Roberto Monti sole administrator.  The main strategy of the founders – husband and wife – in the growth and development of the brand has always been quality, in product development as well as in all other areas of the company.  These gorgeous Sempione navy slacks size 8 were priced at $8.00.  The next item I found was Trina Turk salmon color size 10 slacks were priced at $3.00.  Trina has drawn constant inspiration from the cocktail party and poolside lifestyle of the desert, so it was fitting that the first Trina Turk boutique opened in 2002 in Palm Springs in a modernist building designed by Albert Frey.  There you have the best damn reason to LOVE this woman, she is a fan of modernism!  A woman after my own heart.  When I found this BCBG chocolate loose knit wrap size medium and priced at $2.29,  I knew it all came together.  Now if only I could miraculously find this Jason Wu white ruffle sleeve blouse that would look absolutely FAB with both slacks, life would be so much sweeter.  Don’t forget to shop at The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook.  If you have a moment click on and watch some of my YouTube thrifting videos.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

Agnes b polka dot blouse with Escada white denim OOH LA LA.

Give me anything by Agnes b and I’m one happy camper, give me a polka dot blouse and I’m really cheery.  I found this gorgeous Agnes b size 12 for $8.00, which is expensive for me, and couldn’t pass it up.  Agnes b opened her first store in the early 70′s in Paris.  Involved in the 1968 student riots in Paris, she was reportedly a young rebellious and socially aware campaigner who bought the same spirit to the brand we know today.  Agnes b brand is stylish; it stands outside of the hype of fashion, focusing more on the feel good factor it promotes and the friends it makes along the way.  This brand in my opinion ROCKS.  Then I scored these white denim stretchy Escada white jeans.  Escada is an international luxury fashion group in women’s designer fashion.  In thirty years, Escada has become a leading name in women’s fashion, often worn to red carpet events by celebrities.  These size 2 Escada were also priced at $8.00.  In my world spending $16.00 for 2 items is spending top dollar but for the rest of the world it’s a bargain.  See how warped your mind becomes when you get accustomed to paying nothing for luxury.  There are times when I’m thrifting and see a brand that I want but is marked to high so I walk.  In the end I guess it’s all in how things are perceived.  Don’t forget to Shop in The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook.  Looking for entertainment then look no farther click on and watch some of my thrifting videos on YouTube.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

Alberto Makali meet Jil Sander.

Wearing this Alberto Makali top would be like wearing a piece of art, and I knew that the second I plucked it off the rack.  This accordion texture with it’s bold abstract print is a first round knockout.  Established in 1990 Alberto Makali’s direction remains unchanged: to create a core set of high quality novelty bridge suitings and sportswear, and couple them with a combination of style and attitude.  This lovely piece of art was priced at $1.75.  When I saw these gorgeous light weight black wool Jil Sander slacks size 6,  I immediately knew that the Alberto Makali top would look simple, elegant, and tres CHIC together.  Raf Simons joined Jil Sander company in July 2005, taking the position of creative director.  In 2006 the British Private Equity Fund Change Capital Partners bought Jil Sander from the Prada group.  With this takeover the Jil Sander Group became an independent company again.  Jil Sander has always been one of my most favorite designers.  I have always said if by chance I win the lottery, then I would donate my entire wardrobe to some charity, then walk into Jil Sander’s New York store and get fitted for EVERYTHING, and call it a day.  That’s my recurring fantasy. I paid $3.00 for the Jil Sander slacks.  Combined I paid  under $5.00 , now that’s one joyful union. BCBG dress, St. John top and Moschino sexy slacks.

I do believe Spring is here and after this very long Winter,  I say bring it ON.  I think this blue BCBG size large dress with the funky pockets on the bottom is just the answer for Spring.  How do you say no to this cotton casual dress especially when it’s priced at $4.00?  Finding this light blue St John knit size petite top for $4.00 is also a sign from above that Spring is here and mother nature wants everyone to look and feel like a million dollars.  There is something really regal about this brand, when St John clothes go beyond age barriers, that’s rich, chic and not trendy.  I love that SJ isn’t all up in trends, I’ve never believed in trends either or for that matter followed anyone’s fashion advice.  I say walk to your own beat, follow only yourself and screw what the “experts” say what is in or out.  When it’s on your body it’s IN, especially if you have 100% confidence in yourself.  Nothing is sexier than being confident.  Next thing I found were these gorgeous white Moschino slacks.  Moschino is an Italian fashion brand house and manufacturer of women’s, men’s and children fashion.  The brand was originally created in 1983 by the late Franco Moschino.  Moschino and his fashion label became famous for his innovative, colorful designs, for his criticisms of the fashion industry and for his social awareness campaigns in the early 1990′s.  Moschino’s Cheap and Chic women’s secondary line was created in 1988.  These slacks were $8.00 and with that sexy St John top for $4.00 you have one cranked up outfit for $12.00.  Don’t forget to shop at The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook.  Take a minute to watch my YouTube videos about thrifting.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

Nicole Miller + Laundry + Marimekko.

I really appreciate it when the GODS give me a little treat by rewarding me with a Nicole Miller bedazzled blouse size xl.  Nicole Miller is an American designer that has a huge Hollywood following such as Angelina Jolie, Halle Barry, Lauren Hutton, Eva Longoria Parker and Felicity Huffman.  Nicole Miller is one of the most visible designer brand names anywhere.  This blouse was priced at $5.29 but it was also half off which made it $2.65.  I then found a floor length cocktail dress by Laundry Shelli Segal. This fancy fancy dress is 100% silk with hand sewn bead work is a size 4.  Shelli Segal is a Los Angeles based company that loves to make a girl feel sexy without feeling trendy.  This gorgeous dress was priced at $4.29 and half off of that is $2.15.  Finally I found this super cool and if this doesn’t say ‘Welcome Spring ‘ then I don’t know what would, Marimekko cotton strapless size 6 dress.  Marimekko was established in 1951 in Finland and manufacture high quality clothing, interior decoration textiles, bags, and other accessories.  Marimekko was originally introduced to the American market in the late 1950′s and became extremely popular following a December 1960 Sports Illustrated cover showing first Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in a simple pink Marimekko dress.  The pink sassy dress was priced at $5.29 but at half off it ended up costing me $2.65.  I spent a grand total of $7.45 for all 3 luxury brands.  I know it’s a crime but someone has to do it.  Don’t forget to Shop at The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook.  For your entertainment you can click on and watch my YouTube thrifting videos.  Toodles for now.  Daniel

Vera Wang bridesmaids dress.

I tell you I wasn’t going out with the intention of finding a bridesmaid dress but when it’s Vera Wang you don’t ask any questions you just take off the rack and head to counter.  This is a BRAND NEW Vera Wang bridesmaid green satin size 8 dress and I paid $5.00 !  What you just heard was the sound of  some girl falling down on the floor.  These dresses retail between $180-290.  In 1990, inspired by a new vision where fashion and bridal meet, Vera Wang opened a bridal salon at the esteemed Carlyle Hotel on New York City’s Madison Avenue.  Retailers, editors and peers quickly noted the impact of her innovative bridal collections and encouraged Vera Wang to extend her design sensibility to ready to wear and bridesmaids collections.  Vera Wang collections are positioned at the highest end of the luxury market.  Driven by artistic, modern and luxurious design and style, couture like quality and a high level of customer service, Vera Wang’s collections hold impeccable customer appeal.  Did I mention that I paid $5.00 for this?  That’s not even the price of a whole sandwich from Whole Foods, in fact that’s half a damn sandwich.  Don’t forget to shop at The Thrifters Boutique and follow me on Twitter & Facebook.  Please be sure to check out some of my YouTube videos about thrifting.  Toodles for now.  Daniel.
