Thankful on Thanksgiving Day.
Happy Thanksgiving . I want to give thanks for all the great design objects I have been given, by all my wonderful friends, throughout my life.
* My friend Art gave me this Arne Jacobsen designed for Georg Jensen, cake knife. It looks like it could have been used for the movie “A Clockwork Orange”. Hands down a brilliant design.
* This remarkable book shelf Mitch gave me one year for Christmas, the Sapien Bookcase (2003) by Bruno Rainaldi, made in Italy wins the award for Best in Design. Everyone needs this book shelf.
* My brother Darrell for my birthday one year gave me the Magino Acrylic Stool / Magazine Rack designed by Karim Rashid and I love this very practical object. Thanks bro.
* Even though Gary didn’t give me this fabulous vintage Orrefors martini shaker, I can’t help but say thank you. Gary called me to tell me about an estate sale, which is where this piece came from, and if he hadn’t called, I wouldn’t have been so lucky and purchased this gorgeous glass piece.
* These two amazing books are from my dear friend Liz Lapidus, she picked up the Mapplethorpe in New York at an exhibition, and the Donald Judd when she went to Marfa Texas. I have read these books cover to cover.
* The Noguchi orange lamp was a Christmas present from two of the dearest people in my life Nena and Rhett. I absolutely love this lamp / sculpture and every time I see it, my love deepens.
I have two other Noguchi vintage lamps but they are in storage, this piece had to come to our new house.
* This stainless bowl from Alessi was a gift from my oldest college friend Jerry back in 1984 by Sean Falconieri. I have moved a million times since 1984 and this piece has always followed me. It’s timeless, stylish and so sophisticated.
* This Iittala designed by Alvar Aalto was given to me by my friend Gena, who knows so much about design. She was in Helsinki last year and purchased this just for me. Am I lucky or what?
* How can I forget the Roberto Collina shirt Umie gave me? Damn I love that shirt!
* My friend Jeanette, is a fabulous artist and professional thrifter like me, found me a 1970′s Lacoste tennis racket case at at thrift store for $3.00.
* Finally this candle was given to me by my ultra stylish friend Sloan. It’s made from 100% plant based non toxic organic wax. I wish you all could smell this candle, it’s just so clean and fresh. I only light this on special occasions such as when the day I found my Lagerfeld jacket!
