What was I thinking?
Remember yesterday’s blog posting when I mentioned that I would finish the rest of the story today? When I arrived at The Value Village Thrift Store and spotted a vintage Burberry long wool coat marked at $15.29, I paced up and down the aisle asking myself “do I really need this”? It needed several repair jobs such as: stitching a 6 inch tear on the collar, reattaching the silk lining to both arms, and of course dry cleaning. It also was about 30 pounds of pure wool, heavy. I hung it back on the rack and as I got in to my car to drive off, asked myself “are you sure you don’t need that vintage Burberry coat for $15.29″? This morning, after agonizing over the fact that I walked out of the thrift store without that fabulous Burberry coat,I decided to go back. When I entered the store I noticed that the store was rocking with people. Then over the loud speaker the woman announced that today was HALF off. I ran back to that rack thinking “I can get the Burberry coat for $7.65″ that is only if it is still there. I looked everywhere in the store, on every rack, under every rack, even in the women’s coat rack section it had vanished. Someone else had walked out paying $7.65 for this stunning coat, because I was foolish enough to leave it behind yesterday. After they purchased, altered, and dry cleaned it they would have invested around $70 for a vintage Burberry wool coat at only a fraction of retail . Although, not to worry I didn’t leave empty handed today. I scored a Valentino wool sweater (made in Italy) and a zany printed shirt by Michael Kors both for $4.
As far as that coat, hours later I am still asking myself “What was I thinking”. Toodles for now.

I have done that so many times! I went to half off day at VV today (it's the last Wed. of every month, mark your calendar!!) and bought 8 vintage designer silk ties. Most were Christian Dior, but I got one YSL, one Scaasi (is that label even still around? – cool tie though!), and one Worth and Worth. Not sure about the last one, but it was very cool. I'm going to roll them all up in a box and give them to my GBF. So my question for you is: did Dior license ties to someone else, and thus they are not that great of a find, or did I get lucky?
Hi Frugal Hostess I'm so glad you scored today. I have a Cracker Jack nylon bag, I grabbed at a yard sale years ago, that I keep all my ties in. I have tons of Hermes, Ferragamo, Versace, and Gucci. I love them and this Fall & WInter I plan on wearing all of them. For woman I think they look so great worn as a waist belt. If you have any French cuff shirts wear them with your ties. I love that look. Dior designers have always designed ties, and I've seen some amazing ones from Dior. On eBay they aren't as collectable as say Hermes but that's ok, long as they have a great design who cares. If you watch The Real Housewives of Atlanta you'll know that Kim repeatedly says she wants to be buried in DIOR. I say cremate me in Jil Sander! Keep shopping Frugal Hostess and keep me posted on all your finds. Thanks for sharing.
