I have made no bones about the fact that I despise the Olsen twins for their overuse of FUR and will always continue to do so until they decide to step into the 21st century and leave the FUR behind where it belongs which is the 19th century. If there is one thing about me that you’ll soon find out, I am passionate and relentless. I’ve had people ask me why I don’t like FUR and yet wear leather shoes and I’ll be honest with you, I’m not militant, I just don’t like FUR and the fact that people are wearing a dead friggin animal. Not only is that just gross it’s tacky. Off my soap box and into the facts: Ashley & Mary-Kate Olsen launched Elizabeth & James in 2007 and it was named after 2 of their siblings. Back on my soap box: in the winter you’ll always see the Olsen twins out and about wearing some kind of ratty FUR to some event. Off on my soap box, this gray Elizabeth & James top I found inside the thrift store solo on a rack, a real metaphor I would have to guess as the life of the Olsen twins…. Now don’t beat me up for this posting guys, I just like to lay down my feelings…. Olsen twins you can friend me on Facebook and follow me on Twitter if you like…. toodles for now. Nanette Lepore is unabashedly – not afraid of color and I knew instantly when I spotted this top on the racks that it very well could be a Nanette Lepore piece, and I was right. Nanette Lepore LOVES color and mixing prints & patterns, she is bold and daring, I like that in a fashion designer. Since my background is art I appreciate her color palette as well as her fearlessness and most importantly her tailoring. Plucking this coral piece off the racks and into my basket I continued to shop and next stop the slacks department! Yes even thrift stores have departments…. I can’t think of a better match than these Piazza Sempione black wool slacks with the coral Nanette Lepore top. Now I ask you this, if you saw a woman walking down the street in this ensemble would you even think it came from a thrift store? No and why should you… What I did was salvage these 2 pieces and bought them together to spotlight the fact that STYLE is possible second hand. Oh I love shopping ‘eco friendly’ it’s the only way to shop. Friend me on Facebook and follow me on Twitter too….toodles for now. Be STYLISH go green. Daniel your luxury curator!
I had a little leakage at the thrift store when I came across this label. OMG I just couldn’t believe my eyes and the funny thing is that this shirt / jacket was actually in the women’s section of the thrift store, so it pays to look everywhere. This is a label I’ve lusted after for decades because the designer behind the label, Rei Kawakubo, is the ultimate artist in my opinion. Comme des Garcons (French for “like boys”) has grown to become 1 of Japan’s biggest fashion designers. Started in 1969 by Kei Kawakubo in Tokyo and debut in Paris in 1981. Comme des Garcons was a popular line that often took on the notion of color & sex-appeal in clothing, as had Issey Miyake & Yohji Yamamoto during the same time period. I will wear this shirt / jacket until the day I drop and then I’ll be cremated in it! When you stop by Doubletake in Atlanta you’ll see a lot of fabulous STYLISH clothes but you won’t see this on the racks! Please friend me on Facebook and follow me on Twitter too….toodles for now. Shaun Kearney is the creative force behind the Cynthia Steffe label and if you could see the details on this black jacket you would know what I mean when I say creative force! This Cynthia Steffe jacket is so beyond modern and contemporary I can’t contain myself. This jacket is very French street savvy and when I paired it with this classic tan wool sleeve less top by Max Mara it sure does look like it’s French street savvy. The funny thing is that both brands aren’t even French but you get my drift… I can easily see some French lovely woman walking down the streets of Paris wearing this jacket and this top with the coolest pair of Lanvin slacks and Roger Vivier shoes. I love things that are simple chic and yet can make one turn their head in your direction. Stop by Doubletake and please friend me on Facebook and follow me on Twitter too….toodles for now. Another week has flown by me and in case you missed anything this Sunday posting is just a re-cap of the week in salvaged luxury. Here is everything that I found: Tibi, Escada, Viktor & Rolf, Marc Jacobs & some stylish bracelets, 11Alive NBC Morning News to talk about after Golden Globe Awards, Escada, Les Copains heels, Ports 1961, Rena Lange, Diane von Furstenberg & St John. This is just from 1 city so imagine what I might find if I were flying off to Houston, Dallas, Miami or even Los Angeles. My goal is to make that happen so stay tuned and thanks for reading and sharing my blog with your friends.
Finding really simple well tailored designs always stands the test of time, it doesn’t matter if it was last season or last decade, good design is always good design. Let me just say I have always hated ‘trends’.. I know hate is a strong word but seriously I really do hate when I hear the word ‘trend’, I mean who in the hell do they think we are to buy such BS? 1 thing I’ve never been was a sheep so I always try to convey that in my blog, women don’t be sheep, if anything be the wolf. So I don’t know when this gorgeous pink DVF top was designed but I don’t give a rats%$# about that or when the navy St John skirt was designed either. Who cares? I know the magazine people want you to care about that but I say piss off ! If it looks great on you then wear it out and arch your back & stand talk. Only the small and narrow minded people know the season and if they are wrapped up in such petty BS then I say grab your Birkin bag, point those Louboutin north and walk on. You are better than that! I just love my women readers and want you all to have all the self confidence Mother Nature intended. Did you just hear that ambulance drive by just now??? Well inside that ambulance was me because I fell to the floor and couldn’t get up when I spotted the Ports 1961 label on this white top. I have never found this luxury brand inside a thrift store before but the thrift store GODS threw me the biggest bone with this one. I mean Ports 1961 is a uber expensive and just down right chic brand. Fiona Gibani, as the creative director of Ports 1961, extends her influence into all aspects of 1 of the most current fashion houses in the world today. Ports International, the Canadian fashion house started by Luke Tanabe in 1961, was the foundation upon which Ports 1961 was built. Fiona, together with her sister Tia Cibani, became the driving force behind the transformation of this fashion house intent on building a global presence of Ports 1961. So with me carrying around in my arms this gorgeous chic top I needed a equally gorgeous chic bottom and again the thrift store GODS blessed me with a lovely bone. This incredible sexy long black wool skirt by Rena Lange is off the chart sexy and I give this entire outfit a 10 on the STYLE odometer! You could have literally knocked me over when I saw these Les Copains heels in excellent condition inside the thrift store. These are so gorgeous and well constructed I can’t imagine how they ended up being donated but I don’t ask and I don’t tell. Les Copains is one of the most well known and reliable names in ready to wear fashion in Italy and throughout the world. The brand name was created in the late ’50s and today to create its collections, Les Copains counts on a young and international creative team lead by world renowned designers. These heels are very modern with the stretch gray leather cord that fits snugly against the ankle. The blue cotton Escada Sport top is of course sporty but also just down right glam. Slap on your favorite pair of Stella McCartney slacks and off to the tracks you go. This year has the “No Fuss” rule. Friend me on Facebook and follow me on Twitter too….toodles for now. Yes I’m loving this Marc Jacobs top but what I’m really loving are these bracelets that add that extra touch of pizzazz. First of all who doesn’t love Marc Jacobs? He is to America what Miuccia Prada is to Italy, I mean everyone in the fashion business can’t wait to see his collections. This is a simple chic Marc Jacobs top that is sexy beyond words and finding these bracelets within the walls of the same thrift store just tells me 1 thing: the thrift store GODS wanted me to salvage them for the Marc Jacobs piece. I’m sticking to this story. A simple way to elevate anything is with accessories such as a scarf, necklace, clutch or bracelets. You don’t have to spend a fortune on accessories today, you have consignment stores, thrift stores, estate sales or even yard sales and hell I’ve even stopped to pillage a pile of clothes on the curb before – one thing I’m not is proud. Getting your clothes & accessories second hand is always STYLISH in my book, I just haven’t written it yet! You should have seen my eyes when I saw the Viktor & Rolf label on this nylon bag, I just couldn’t believe my eyes then I opened it up. Yes this black nylon bag looks STYLISH, sexy and simple chic and it was done for KLM! I died for a second and then I thought well who in the hell would even know that unless you zipped it open and saw the logo of the airline inside? What a STYLISH travel gift for the customers of KLM! It does look super chic with this white cotton Tibi blouse and these black suede Escada heels with a splash of orange on the heel. First appearances are always deceiving yet in this case always STYLISH… Friend me on Facebook and follow me on Twitter too….. toodles for now. Be STYLISH go green. Daniel your luxury curator!
You know I’ve never done this before but thought that a weekly re-cap could be loaded with an olive or 2, so here goes. On Monday I blogged about Martin Grant & Jean Paul Gaultier, Tuesday was Trina Turk & Beth Bowley, Wednesday was Krizia & Aquscutum, Thursday was Rayure & Max Mara, Friday was Betsey Johnson, Krizia & Steve Fabrikant and finally on Saturday I blogged about Paul Smith & t-bags Los Angeles. That’s 13 incredibly STYLISH pieces I found the good old fashion ‘green’ way. No extra or addition resources were sucked up to manufacture any of these item, which makes this not only shopping green but shopping smart.
I swear I should have my own TV show because I have an idea of me flying off to wherever with just my wallet and nothing else. Upon landing I would hit the thrift stores like the Tasmania Devil pillaging all luxury insight and putting ensemble after ensemble together. It’s kinda like what I did with this outfit, I swear I pulled this complete outfit together in a matter of minutes from the same thrift store. I collected this floral sexy Paul Smith top and you guys know how much I love me some Paul Smith so it put a big old smile on my face and then I salvaged this burgundy t-bags Los Angeles skirt. Win Win. I love having this sexy sheer red wrap as well because it elevates this outfit into a whole new arena. Simple chic is the new black. To me the most fun part of doing what I do is learning about a designer I’m not familiar with so when this gorgeous Steve Fabrikant from Neiman Marcus jacket just jumped into my basket at the thrift store, well I just couldn’t say no. When you go to Fabrikant website the last collection it shows if from Fall 2009, which is sad because if you could see the details, the construction and feel the fabric well it would just knock you over. Steve Fabrikant sold his collections in Saks and Neiman Marcus which tell me this man has talent and did I tell you how fabulous it feels?? The top is from Betsey Johnson who always creates whimsical and colorful pieces so this piece is very subdued for her but I think it’s hot. Then I found a vintage pair of Krizia slacks that have to be from the 80′s that bring this ensemble back to full circle. Every piece from the same thrift store and all I did was unite them to form an unbreakable union.
